Steelmaking coal is an essential ingredient in blast-furnace steel manufacture, producing steel used for critical building and infrastructure around the world. In Australia, we operate five steelmaking coal mines in Queensland’s Bowen Basin, and have additional joint venture interests in steelmaking coal and manganese, as well as copper exploration projects underway in North West Queensland and Western Australia.
Job Description
Capcoal Surface Mine are seeking a seasoned Electrical Superintendent to join the CHPP team on a full-time permanent basis, based in Middlemount, Queensland. The Electrical Superintendent optimises the equipment used in the extraction of coal to meet the site annual business plans and Monthly Operating Plans. A core priority of this role is to contribute to the delivery of fit for purpose electrical equipment, strategies and processes to assist achieve the business plan.
This requires an understanding of people, technical and financial inputs to develop and implement operational plans to achieve the annual plan targets (quality, tonnes, costs) safely. It also requires having early input into strategies and plans developed by peers and, in turn, the business strategies and plans.
This is a leadership role, leading electrical engineering continuous improvement work. This includes driving “operations excellence” as a priority as well as leading the identification and realisation of opportunities to create step improvements in engineering maintenance methods and processes.
The key accountabilities are, but not limited to:
- Build, lead and develop the team to deliver departmental plans and continuous improvement objectives.
- Lead a systematic approach to the identification and delivery of CHPP automation improvements.
- Allocate tasks effectively to ensure individual, departmental and site work is adequately resourced.
- Lead the implementation and ensure compliance with safety systems, practices, behaviours and develop a proactive safety culture.
- Develop and manage independent systems that supplement other systems to further assist the operations.
- Regularly review and improve the electrical and control systems standards.
- Conduct monthly contractor management meetings.
- Personally, role model an uncompromising stand on safety standards and appropriate risk management.
- Ensure full implementation of Safety & Health Management systems in own team and work area.
Qualifications
To be successful in this role you will have qualifications in:
- Electrical Trade Qualification and or Degree/ Advanced Diploma in Electrical Engineering
- Maintenance Management or CMMS qualifications would be desirable
In addition, you will also have:
- Previous experience in a similar role within mining operations (preferably Coal) would be beneficial
- Proven experience in post award contract administration will be viewed favourably
- Ability to understand functionality of business systems and extract relevant data for business purposes
- Track record in driving continuous improvement
