Job Description

Reporting to the Risk and Assurance Manager in Anglo American’s Business Assurance Services (ABAS) department, this role will focus on the planning, resourcing, and management of internal audit projects for the Steelmaking Coal business. This is a full-time permanent position based in our Brisbane Corporate Office with some travel required.

The role will be rewarding and varied and will involve the following:

  • Deliver business unit, as well as Group wide, audits that provide assurance to management and the audit committees.
  • Assist with the development of an annual plan for Steelmaking Coal, based on assessment of key risks and an assurance framework.
  • Plan, resource and manage delivery of assigned audit projects i.e. undertake complex or sensitive technical audit work within Steelmaking Coal, including assisting in the facilitation of risk management workshops for senior client managers. 
  • Agreement with key stakeholders on clear scopes/terms of reference and work plans for audit projects.
  • Control time and cost of audit projects, reporting potential time/cost overruns to the Risk and Assurance Manager.
  • Ensure that all assignments are conducted in accordance with ABAS standards, methodology and are in line with the annual plan.
  • Deliver audits in a way that acts as a catalyst for change and improvement, ensuring all assignments are conducted in accordance with ABAS standards, methodology and are in line with the annual plan.
  • Undertaking complex and / or sensitive audit work and assisting in the facilitation of risk management workshops, where required.
  • Conduct analysis of audit findings within the business unit to identify themes and issues for management to address.
  • Communicate findings to Risk and Assurance Manager and other stakeholders regarding ramifications of control weaknesses.
  • Identify value add and improvement initiatives through audit observations.
  • Develop and execute audit programs, consolidate audit findings, draft reports and present the results to management.
  • Support Audit Action management and reporting.
  • Engage with colleagues, internal audit, and business management in a professional, constructive, and cooperative manner.
  • Stay abreast of international best practice in auditing standards.
  • Actively participate in knowledge sharing initiatives and processes

Qualifications

  • A relevant degree and Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) qualification - Essential
  • Proven experience as an internal auditor in a complex business with multi-site operations
  • Exposure to the mining industry or other heavy industries advantageous
  • Extensive experience in auditing approaches and methodologies.
  • Demonstrated experience with risk and auditing systems and tools.
  • Ability to produce high quality and well-articulated documentation and reports.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Develop relationships with senior management in the business units and functions.
  • Initiate cross boundary collaboration with peers and teams across the business.
  • High regard and diligence to safety systems, regulations, and standards
  • Both local/regional and international travel may be required.
