Job Description

The GIC handles a large variety of goods in support of the research activities on site. This ranges from heavy machinery being installed in the building to ceramic components and powders used in research. Typically, many small deliveries of miscellaneous items will arrive during the course of a day, with occasional larger shipments of components from other sites within the Element Six Group.

The Warehouse Operative will be the responsible person for the physical handling of incoming and outgoing goods. This includes ensuring correct documentation and packaging, as well as the electronic transactions directly related with shipping and logistics.

This role suits a person with attention to detail, a good sense of order with the flexibility to adapt to changing workload and tasks and enjoys interaction with a variety of personal during the day.

Physical demands of the role include frequent standing, lifting various weights, working inside and outside in all weather conditions.

Duties and tasks

  • Receive incoming goods and incoming inspection for transit damage. Unpacking, labelling, and internal transport to store location. Notify addressees of incoming deliveries
  • Forklift driving to assist offloading of deliveries or loading of shipments. General resource for forklift assistance on site
  • Upkeep of storage areas ensuring a safe tidy environment. Perform stock counts, keeping accurate records.
  • Upkeep of outside yard areas including waste areas ensuring a safe tidy environment
  • Prepare goods and organise couriers for shipment, ensuring correct documentation and packaging
  • Complete orders, issue material, adjust stock, and perform other goods related tasks in the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system. File delivery notes, certificates and record incoming inspection information
  • Other ad hoc duties on site dependant on workload and staffing levels

Qualifications

  • Able and licenced to drive forklift
  • Experience from goods handling or logistics work
  • Excellent communication skills, a flexible approach with a team focus and can-do attitude. Works well on own and in a team.
  • The ability to accurately follow verbal and written instructions
  • An ability to take charge of a situation and use your own initiative
  • IT literate with a working knowledge of standard office software. Experience using ERP systems (such as JD Edwards, SAP,or similar) for inventory management.
  • Good time management and prioritisation skills.
  • An eye for detail and the ability to meet deadlines
  • Maintains good working relationships with all site personnel and external contacts and communicates clearly
  • Pride in a safe and tidy work environment. Not afraid to remind co-workers in friendly manner to tidy up
