About the role 

Reporting to the Mechanical Engineering Superintendent, this is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Fixed Equipment Engineer to join the Lytton Refinery team. In this role, you will provide specialist mechanical engineering support for the safe, reliable and efficient operation of fixed equipment and associated plant assets. You will play a key role in maintaining asset integrity, driving reliability improvement initiatives, and delivering engineering solutions that optimise equipment performance, availability and lifecycle value. 

Key responsibilities  

• Provide technical engineering support and decision-making for the operation, maintenance, inspection and repair of fixed equipment, including piping, pressure vessels, heat exchangers, columns, furnaces, boilers and tanks.  

• Conduct Fitness for Service (FFS) assessments (Levels 1, 2 and 3) and lead the investigation and resolution of complex fixed equipment issues.  

• Lead and support Management of Change (MOC) processes, incident investigations and root cause analysis to improve safety, reliability and asset integrity.  

• Identify, evaluate and implement reliability and maintenance optimisation initiatives to enhance equipment performance and lifecycle value.  

• Develop and recommend capital improvement opportunities, including preparation of project concepts and business cases.  

• Contribute to process design, engineering solutions, and the development of engineering standards and specifications to ensure safe, compliant and efficient operations. 

Qualifications & Experience 

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering and RPEQ registration (or eligibility to obtain), with strong mechanical engineering experience in a heavy industrial or refining environment.  

• Demonstrated expertise in the operation, maintenance, inspection and integrity management of fixed equipment, including pressure vessels, piping, tanks and heat exchangers.  

• Proven ability to lead reliability improvement initiatives, influence stakeholders and drive change across multidisciplinary teams in complex operational environments.  

• Strong knowledge of refinery process units, utility systems, fixed equipment engineering principles and relevant API codes and standards.  

• Experience undertaking Fitness for Service (API 579) assessments and providing engineering support for asset integrity, maintenance and risk-based decision-making.  

• Exposure to mechanical engineering design for capital projects, including equipment design, fabrication, modification and Management of Change (MOC) processes.  

• Proficiency in engineering analysis and technology tools, with experience in pipe stress analysis software (e.g. AutoPIPE or CAESAR II) and the ability to develop practical engineering solutions independently
