About the role 

Ampol is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Asset Accountant to join our Finance team on a 6-month max-term contract. Reporting into the broader Shared Services team, this role will support the financial management and reporting of Ampol's fixed asset and lease portfolio, ensuring the integrity of financial data and compliance with internal accounting policies and relevant accounting standards, including AASB 16. 

This position is ideally suited to an early-career accountant looking to further develop their technical accounting and SAP skills. While the role includes exposure to asset and lease accounting, it also involves a significant focus on SAP administration, data maintenance, reconciliations, and month-end activities. You'll work closely with stakeholders across the business to support Capex tracking, lease administration, and accurate financial reporting. 

Key responsibilities 

  • Allocate and monitor capital expenditure (Capex) budgets in line with project timelines and business requirements  
  • Track project progress and provide timely financial reporting and updates  
  • Set up, maintain, and amend lease records within SAP, ensuring data accuracy and completeness  
  • Validate lease information and attributes in accordance with accounting requirements  
  • Support accounting and reporting activities related to AASB 16 lease accounting standards  
  • Manage balance sheet reconciliations, including lease payments, right-of-use assets, lease liabilities, and sub-ledger reconciliations  
  • Prepare and post month-end journals and support month-end close activities  
  • Maintain accurate asset and lease records across finance systems  
  • Assist with financial controls, reporting requirements, and audit requests as required  
  • Contribute to process improvements and data quality initiatives within the asset accounting function 

Qualifications & Experience 

  • Minimum 2+ years' experience in accounting, finance, or a related role  
  • Previous experience working with SAP is essential  
  • Exposure to fixed asset accounting, lease accounting, or general accounting processes  
  • Understanding of, or experience working with, AASB 16 lease accounting standards  
  • Strong attention to detail with a high level of accuracy in financial data management and reporting  
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and confidence working with large volumes of data  
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment  
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
