We work across borders, collaborate widely, and lead with purpose - always looking for ways to improve how we operate, support our people, and deliver results.
About the role
We are seeking a Category Manager to join our Procurement team, supporting IT, software, and managed services categories. This is a permanent, full-time opportunity based at our Alexandria Head Office, with a hybrid working arrangement.
This role sits within a strategic procurement function that partners closely with the business to deliver commercial value through vendor engagement, and procurement advisory. Rather than being heavily sourcing-led, this position focuses on optimising long-standing supplier relationships, leading contract negotiations, and supporting stakeholders through complex commercial decisions.
You will play a key role in enabling procurement strategy execution across the organisation while acting as a trusted advisor to the business. With a major integration program on the horizon pending regulatory approvals, this is a unique opportunity to contribute to large-scale contract alignment, commercial reviews, and vendor optimisation activities across a complex and evolving environment.
Key responsibilities
- Lead contract negotiations, renewals, and commercial reviews for key IT vendors, ensuring alignment to business requirements and governance frameworks
- Lead end to end sourcing and tender processes, including market engagement, evaluation, negotiation, and recommendation, to deliver optimal commercial and service outcomes
- Act as the strategic interface with key suppliers, driving performance, innovation, and continuous improvement through structured SRM frameworks
- Optimise contractual arrangements to ensure service quality, cost efficiency, and delivery against agreed SLAs and performance outcomes
- Provide expert procurement and commercial advice to business stakeholders on sourcing decisions, contract optimisation, and vendor strategy
- Lead commercial due diligence, contract alignment, and supplier rationalisation activities to support integration programs
- Ensure contracts and supplier arrangements comply with procurement policies, regulatory requirements, and risk frameworks
- Maintain awareness of market trends, supplier capabilities, and pricing benchmarks to inform sourcing strategies and commercial negotiations
- Drive adherence to procurement processes, including sourcing, approvals, DoA compliance, and contract lifecycle management
- Track and deliver procurement benefits, identify cost savings opportunities, and provide commercial insights to support business decision making
Qualifications & Experience
- Proven experience in procurement and contract management within a large, complex organisation
- Strong contract negotiation capability across IT services and products, including managed services and software agreements
- Demonstrated ability to build, influence, and maintain effective relationships with key business stakeholders
- Ability to operate autonomously in a fast-paced, dynamic procurement environment
- Strong commercial acumen, with the ability to interpret contracts, market dynamics, and financial implications
- Experience managing strategic supplier relationships and delivering measurable commercial outcomes
- Background in blue-chip or highly structured industries (eg. Mining, Energy or similar) preferred
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to influence, drive alignment, and bring stakeholders on the journey
- Experience with procurement systems and tools is advantageous
- Exposure to contract integration, acquisitions, or large-scale transformation programs is beneficial but not essential
Benefits
- Our total remuneration is competitive. This is across base salary, car allowance, a company performance incentive, employee share offers and a 25% discount on Fuel for two privately used cars!
- We are flexible. Many of our teams have embraced hybrid work, balancing time spent remote working, with time spent at an office to connect and work together where it adds value.
- Remote Working: Support for up to 3 months remote international working (conditional to 5 days paid leave for every 30 days of remote work).
- We value recognition. We have an internal recognition platform amplifying the achievements of those who do great work and demonstrate our capabilities and values.
- Career development and learning opportunities including LinkedIn Learning and other tailored training solutions.
- Baby Care Package - financial and flexible support for parents transitioning back to work.
- Need some wheels? Novated Lease options are available.
- Invest in your future with the Employee Share Scheme
- Leave Options – Flexible leave options include generous annual leave, optional additional purchased leave and wellbeing days throughout the year.
- Care for your Community. Spend one paid day a year volunteering with one of our Ampol Foundation partners.
