About the Role
It’s an exciting time to join our Merchandise team as we transform our retail business with fantastic offers across our convenience store network.
We are looking for a Permanent Full-Time Assistant Category Manager to support key aspects of the buying function and the execution of our category strategy. This role offers a development pathway making it an ideal opportunity for someone passionate about building a long-term career in retail merchandising.
You'll support Category Managers to deliver strategy across a portfolio by managing pricing, product range, and promotions in our retail stores. Your work will help drive growth and profitability, while building strong supplier and stakeholder relationships.
Key Responsibilities
- Support category performance reporting, including sales, profitability, and waste analysis.
- Collaborate with Category Managers/Buyers to drive range, pricing, promotions, and strategic decision-making.
- Analyze market data and trends to identify opportunities for category growth and improvement.
- Assist with forecasting for promotional programs and stock management for direct-to-store suppliers.
- Participate in lookback analysis of promotions and assist in developing new promotional strategies.
- Support effective supplier relationship management, including invoicing and tracking supplier income.
- Ensure clear communication with our retail stores to enable excellent execution of category plans.
- Assist in managing the price file and contributing to category-specific planograms and layout optimization.
- Contribute to projects within the merchandise team that align with business strategy and growth.

Qualifications
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills are essential – confident working with large datasets and formulas
- 2+ years’ experience in category management, merchandising, buying, or promotional/marketing activities
- Strong data analysis capabilities and ability to turn insights into actionable outcomes
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate across all levels
- Solid understanding of supplier business, trade negotiations, and franchisee requirements in retail
- Action-oriented mindset with strong attention to detail and commercial acumen
- Experience with SAP and AMS systems
