Job Description
American Iron & Metal is a growth-oriented metal recycling and processing company located in Bangor, ME. We are currently recruiting for a Heavy Equipment Crane Operator with experience for our Bangor location.
Reporting to the Supervisor, the Heavy Equipment Crane Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the Loader. This position operates loaders equipped with front-mounted hydraulically powered buckets or scoops, which are used to transport scrap metal and other materials to the appropriate locations.
Key Responsibilities:
The responsibilities of the Loader Operator include, but are not limited to:
Equipment Operation
- Operate the Loader and other heavy equipment safely and appropriately.
- Perform daily maintenance and safety checks of equipment.
- Understand and follow directions from supervisor as to the required work area.
- Operate Loader controls to lower and tilt bucket and drive forward to force bucket into bulk material; Move lever to raise and tilt bucket when filled, or to dump material.
- Ensure a sound understanding of the issues involving ground disturbance.
- Perform routine cleaning and maintenance to ensure smooth operation of the Loader.
- Operate other heavy equipment and perform other related duties as required.
- Remove drain plugs from motors and transmissions;
- Drill gas tanks from vehicles;
- Monitor the quality of incoming product and notify the Receiver if any deficiencies are noted.
- Use a magnet to unload the metal when necessary
- Perform regular equipment inspections; report any maintenance issues immediately
- Perform other tasks as requested by the supervisor

Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years of experience operating heavy equipment
- 2 to 3 years’ experience within the metal scrap industry is preferred
- Knowledge of Loader and other heavy equipment.
- Understanding of computerized controls and electronics.
- Must be physically able to lift and carry at least 50 LBS
- - Outside work, regardless of weather conditions
- - Standing, sitting, and walking most of the shift.
- - Always wear the proper PPE
- Organized, responsible, resourceful.
- Good team player.
Additional Information
- Work schedule: Monday to Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm + Saturday 8:00 am to 12:00 pm
- Full-time, permanent position.
