Job Description

The branch Controller is a strategic role which consists in overviewing the financial and accounting activities for our plant located in our Montreal’s headquarter. He/she is responsible for the maintenance of accounting systems, preparation of financial reports, tax compliance as well as for the relations with the external auditors and the implementation of the financial policies and procedures from the Head office. He/she is also responsible for the preparation of the monthly reporting for the headquarter and for coordinating the cost accounting activities. The candidate will be responsible for the annual and cyclical physical inventory count in Canada and the US, as well as any resulting analyzes.

Finally, the Controller is a leader proactive individual that is the main support to the executive management and that will play a strategic role within the local management team in Montreal.

Qualifications

The branch controller’s responsibilities, among others, are:

  • To implement and maintain general accounting and financial reporting systems, policies and procedures;
  • To provide support to the headquarter in the accomplishment of all his responsibilities;
  • To recommend and participate in the implementation of improvement measures where necessary;
  • To implement and maintain proper internal controls according to the corporate policies and local requirements;
  • To supervise the preparation of the monthly and annual financial statements and supporting schedules;
  • In conjunction with the Director of Operations, develop and maintain management reports to optimize costs and operation;
  • To review and maintain the standard costs;
  • To ensure on-time filing and full taxation compliance;
  • To control accuracy of all financial and management reporting;
  • To provide meaningful analysis to management;
  • To supervise sales tax audits;
  • To prepare/review the R&D CT (tax compliance);
  • To supervise government filings as required;
  • To supervise year-end audit for the Canada and US entities;
  • To ensure proper application of GAAP;

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • To manage the finance / accounting team, providing supervision, direction and counseling;
  • To provide direction and training to new and existing employees;
  • To ensure a positive work environment and awareness by staff of company policies, procedures, goals and objectives.

Requirements: 

  • CPA with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in a similar role in a manufacturing company;
  • A person with strong knowledge of the Canadian VAT, fiscal and tax requirements;
  • A person with attention to details and a strong ability to work under pressure;
  • A person having an analytical mind and an ability to perform autonomously;
  • Diplomacy, tenacity, rigor, flexibility and dynamism are required for this position;
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office and possess an advanced level with Excel;
  • Leadership skills;
  • Quick learner;
  • Fluently bilingual French and English;
  • Knowledge of IFS,  an asset.
