The American College of Medical Genetics and Genomics is an organization composed of biochemical, clinical, cytogenetic, medical, and molecular geneticists, genetic counselors, and other health care professionals committed to the practice of medical genetics. The ACMG was incorporated in 1991 to give national representation to providers of genetic services and their patients with genetic disorders and to speak for the emerging specialty of medical genetics in organizations and agencies concerned with medical service, certification, and regulatory issues. The ACMG provides education, resources, and a voice for the medical genetics profession and its' mission is to improve health through genetics.

This role supports the activities of the National Coordinating Center for the Regional Genetics Networks (NCC), which is a cooperative agreement between the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) and ACMG. The NCC's mission is to work with the seven Regional Genetics Networks (RGNs) and the National Genetics Education and Family Support Center (Family Center) to improve access to genetic services for underserved populations.

Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY (Short summary of the essential purpose of the job)

This position will help support the NCC's efforts through assistance with workgroups, national projects, and NCC staff.  The role will help coordinate a number of national projects, which include national data collection and evaluation and the ACMG ACT Sheets.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Duties that occupy a major portion of time and importance in the job)

Administrative Support  20%

  • Provide administrative support for the NCC
  • Maintain an online calendar for external stakeholders
  • Assist with the identification of relevant resources developed by external stakeholders
  • Maintain an updated electronic filing system
  • Takes on other miscellaneous typing, data entry, organization, and assistance with major projects as assigned

Workgroup and National Project Support  70%

  • Workgroup Meeting Tasks (20%)
    • Serve as the scribe for project conference calls and meetings
    • Edit documents during calls and meetings
    • Schedule conference calls
    • Maintain an internal project management system
    • Run reports from database, Excel, or other systems
    • Assist in preparing for project meetings (e.g., roster development, printing materials, scheduling travel, etc.)
  • Support Workgroup Projects (50%)
    • Track project status and deadlines
    • Coordinate with internal and external partners as needed
    • Follow-up with partners to ensure project deadlines are met
    • Develop reports and project materials as identified by the NC Senior Program Manager
    • Conduct various internet research projects
    • Development of promotional materials (flyers, newsletters, social media)

External Meetings Support  10%

  • Attend external meetings and conferences, as required
  • Staff the NCC exhibit booth at conferences and meetings, as needed
  • Support development of specific meeting materials (social media campaigns, presentations, posters)

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE SKILL REQUIRED (Minimum education and experience needed to perform the job adequately)

  • Education/Experience Requirements
    • 2-4 years of experience as Project Assistant
    • Bachelors degree required or four years of equivalent work experience
      • Demonstrated interest in Public Health, Genetics, or Biology (either through coursework or related work experience); plans to pursue further education in these fields, a plus
  • Technical Capacity:
    • High proficiency in Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint
    • Working knowledge of developing promotional materials with various software (Canva, Venngage, Wave, Photoshop, etc.)
    • Working knowledge of Microsoft Visio, a plus
    • Working knowledge of Tableau, a plus
    • Experience with HTML/websites or other Content Management Software

Additional Information

Physical Requirements 
This is a largely sedentary position that requires the ability to speak, hear, see and lift small objects up to 20 lbs.
