Job Description

Position Summary 

The Government Relations (GR) Associate plays a vital role in facilitating the Government Relations department's functions, serving as the primary point of contact for news, policy updates, analysis, research, and administrative tasks. Responsibilities include monitoring both governmental and non-governmental policy activities, promptly updating the GR team on relevant developments. Additionally, the Associate contributes to the development and upkeep of GR materials, tracking sheets, websites, and advocacy materials. They conduct thorough research and offer insightful analysis on matters concerning health and higher education policy. Moreover, they oversee the administration of AACOM GR-related councils and coalitions. Through a blend of administrative expertise and professional support, the Associate aids the GR team in achieving its objectives.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

• Monitor congressional and executive activity and news and provide relevant digests and briefs to GR team.   

• Review and analyze policy issues, write timely updates, and highlight relevant items to GR staff.  

• Maintain and ensure organization of GR systems, including internal SharePoint sites and files, email accounts and relevant tracking sheets. 

• Support and contribute to the development of newsletter and daily website content.     

• Facilitate administration of grassroots outreach through AACOM advocacy platforms, creating content and disseminating alerts and updates.   

• Coordinate GR events, such as Advocacy Day, serving as the logistical contact for meeting scheduling, material development, and administrative facilitation.  

• Create first drafts of advocacy material to include talking points, one pagers, action alerts, legislative and regulatory summaries, and relevant social media content for GR Department and AACOM’s national grassroots network.   

• Manage tracking and project material, including updates and deadlines.   

• Attend and provide detailed notes of relevant coalition meetings, congressional events, and other external and internal meetings. 

• Provide research and analysis of all relevant health and higher education policy.  

• Prepare AACOM’s lobbying disclosure reports in accordance with the Lobbying Disclosure Act.   

• Manage GR team travel arrangements, complete expense reports and manage calendars as needed. 

• Assist with logistics and meeting preparation.  

• Maintain GR contacts, calendars, listservs, councils, and coalition memberships.  

 

Supervision 

• No positions report directly to this position. 

• This position reports to the Director of Government Relations. 

Qualifications

Education

• Bachelor's degree and experience in a government relations department or policy setting is preferred.

 

Physical Requirements 

• This position is remote but must be based in the DMV region.   

• This position is primarily sedentary and is performed in an office-like setting (including remote work).   

• Position requires ability to communicate effectively, and the ability to use computers, telephones, and other office equipment.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS 

This is a full-time position with health, dental, vacation and 401K benefits. The salary for this position is $60,000 - $65,000 annually.
