Job Description

Role Summary

We are seeking a qualified and experienced town planner to join our team. The ideal candidate might possess a depth of experience in project planning, community development, and project management. S/he will be responsible for developing, implementing, and reviewing planning policies, creating maps, and researching local codes. 

Responsibilities

  • Design and administer government plans and policies affecting land use, zoning, public utilities, community facilities, and housing
  • Determine project viability by assessing its potential impact on the community and ensuring it aligns with the set objectives of the business
  • Analyze data to determine and recommend an appropriate course of action in each facet of development, including project scope, traffic flow, and water and waste management
  • Research into relevant town planning policy, the legislative framework, and specific legislation applicable to a particular project or sector at an early stage in the project development and planning process, to be able to provide strategic advice on the town planning requirements
  • Visits the project site to monitor ongoing development and ensure compliance with planning policies and regulations
  • Create, prepare, or requisition graphic and narrative reports on land use data, including land area maps overlaid with geographic variables such as population density.
  • Ensure proper management of current infrastructure and urban resources.
  • Coordinate with other local governments and prepare site approval documents
  • Guide engineers/architects on the production of drawings and supplemental planning information concerning planning submissions
  • Monitor construction-related activities to ensure that planning consents and directions are fully complied with
  • Management of databases for any assistance with public consultation
  • Create and interpret maps and diagrams
  • Review and evaluate environmental impact reports about private and public planning projects and programs.
  • Ensure the environment is protected throughout the planning and urban development process.
  • Keep abreast of economic and legal issues involved in zoning codes, building codes, and environmental regulations.
  • Prepare reports and presentations that detail the location and characteristics of different urban infrastructures, as well as population factors.
  • Hold public meetings with government officials, land developers, lawyers, special interest groups, and the general public to address issues regarding urban land use and development.
  • Research demographic trends such as population growth, household size, and income levels to identify future community needs
  • Execute other assignments as directed by the Managing Director 

Qualifications

  • First degree in urban and regional planning, environmental planning, urban design, or a related field preferred in a reputable institution
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Town Planner in the real estate industry
  • Strong analytical and research skills, with proficiency in data analysis tools such as Excel, GIS, and PowerPoint.
  • Professional certification in urban planning is a must-have
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Ability to generate high-quality graphics, diagrams, maps, sketches, and/or renderings.
  • Working knowledge of web-based mapping platforms, such as CartoDB and Mapbox.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously.
