Job Description

As an energy storage/power installation specialist, you will support in the engineering development and installation of our battery energy storage systems. You will take ownership of the the legislative and compliance process and ensure that the unit and its associated installations meet the relevant global regulations including grid connections (G99/G100 and their equivalents)

Working within our team you will engage with internal and external stakeholders to provide solutions that support the company’s vision towards cleaner energy that is affordable to all, you will have contacts and relationships with DNO’s and, ideally with regulatory bodies to help shape the requirements for regulatory approvals in an area that is currently lacking within the industry, we want you to be passionate about the detail and have a desire to play a part in setting the bar high for standards.

You will be providing feedback to the build team to help improve the ease of installation including, organising and managing the installation process which will provide a key role within the company. This role will require you to travel throughout the UK and occasionally within Europe for short periods. You will have a Safety-First approach to all work and be comfortable challenging things that are not as they should be. You will be required to always represent the company to the highest standards.

Responsibilities

  • Ensuring that all designs compliant to international legislation and grid codes. 
  • Stay informed with battery energy storage legislation and standards. 
  • Write specifications, select components based on requirements. 
  • Support engineering and installation to realise compliance
  • Define test requirements and test plans for certification and grid compliance. 
  • Understanding the requirements from international standards (ISO, UN, ….) and customer-driven requirements (Network Operators, Utility industry) i
  • Select main electrical component to fulfill all grid-related requirements. 
  • Creating all relevant technical and project management documentation (requirements, specifications, test plans, test reports). 
  • Liaise with power electronics suppliers to ensure product G99 compliance
  • Liaise with certificating bodies and test houses for tests documentation and execution. 
  • Liaise with DNOs across countries regarding connection process, build proactive relationships with DNO representatives
  • Support ongoing product and process improvement. 
  • Supporting engineering teams in designing for Functional Safety. 
  • Supporting Software teams in defining grid-related functions and services. 
  • Creating guidelines and templates for engineers to use during development to develop high quality products ready for serial production. 

Qualifications

Education Requirements/Person Specification:

Educational Requirements & Relating Experience:

(Essential)

  • Must have experience in battery energy storage for both off-grid and on-grid applications - domestic, commercial and/or grid scale
  • You must have strong relationships with the DNO network
  • Knowledge of industrial and commercial electrical systems is vital
  • Thorough knowledge and experience with the G99 application process and able to demonstrate successful application examples
  • In-depth and strong knowledge and understanding of the electrical regulations and electrical testing/certification
  • Experience in producing quotations for electrical installation work
  • You must be computer literate and have an understanding of software and hardware integration
  • Ability to produce and work from wiring diagrams
  • Knowledge of control systems for both AC and DC systems
  • Hold a basic knowledge of mechanical systems and assembly
  • Right to work in the UK

(Desirable)

  • Experience in automotive engineering, especially EV’s
  • Project Management experience
  • Strong knowledge of the DNO engineering requirements for new connections to the networks
  • Experience in the use of CAD software packages or other electrical design software
  • IOSH or NEBOSH qualification
  • Degree in electrical power engineering
  • Qualifications in EV charging or solar installations
  • Understanding of IT networking
