Job Description

The Technology Solutions (TS) Database Administrator (DBA) is responsible for the planning, coordination, utilization and administration Microsoft SQL relational databases.  The DBA is responsible for ensuring appropriate definition, organization, security, integrity, operation efficiency, operation support, backup and recovery, scheduling and documentation of the databases.  This position will be the authority over structure and contents of critical databases, establishing and enforcing rules, standards and guidelines.  The DBA will also have additional responsibility around administration of virtual and hosted infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and enforce standards using data dictionaries
  • Ensures adequate security safeguards are in place to control access to all databases
  • Plans and executes performance tests of physical data base designs
  • Develop and maintain code and schema promotion process and execute promotion across DEV, TEST, LOAD and PROD environments
  • Ensures the integrity of data base files through the daily monitoring of database logs, journals and transaction statistics
  • Monitors and reviews operating statistics for conformance to performance standards and overall system performance goals. Performs tuning as needed
  • Manage both virtual and hosted infrastructure

Qualifications

  • Minimum education: B.S. in Computer Science, Business, or related major or equivalent business experience
  • Must have at least two – three (2-3) years of database administration experience in either Oracle or MS SQL Server.
  •  Must have at least two – three (2-3) years of systems analysis and/or programming experience.
  • Must have the ability to work with a high degree of accuracy for reviewing and processing complex data (data governance)
  • Experience in database programming techniques such as application development, maintenance, documentation, testing, debugging, and computer operations.
  • Experience working in hosted or virtual infrastructure environment is a plus (Azure is preferred)
  • Knowledge of Backup, Restore, Recovery and high availability strategies for Microsoft Azure environment is a plus.
  • Ability to identify and troubleshoot Azure server and SEL database related CPU, memory, I/O, disk space and other resources is a plus.
  • Knowledge of data warehousing principles is a plus.
  • Must have the ability to meet deadlines and prioritize a high volume of tasks.
  • Must have strong technical, organizational and interpersonal communication skills (both written and verbal). 
  •  Must have strong problem-solving capabilities, strong analytical skills, be flexible and able to handle multiple tasks concurrently.
  • Solid understanding of complete SDLC methodologies
  • Flexibility and adaptability outside the assigned service area
  • Passion for learning new technologies and learning on the fly
