Job Description

Alcoa Massena Operations is seeking an Entry Level Process Engineer to provide engineering services under the guidance of experienced Process Engineers and supervisors.  This position reports to the Potroom Technical Process Flow Leader. Principle contacts for this position include Process Flow Leaders, Supervisors, Technical/Engineering Personnel and Hourly Personnel. 

KEY BUSINESS CHALLENGE:

  • Impact the rate of change of safety performance to enable the achievement of an injury-free work environment.
  • Impact the rate of change of implementing the APS/ABS (Lean Manufacturing) principles into the Smelting operations.
  • Impact continuous improvement to the process of producing aluminum to enable the achievement of overall objectives and KPI’s.
JOB TASKS:
  • Identify waste elimination opportunities; develop solutions; facilitate, lead and participate in improvement activities.
  • Gather and interpret process data to control and improve processes.
  • Work with production personnel and engineering to troubleshoot day-to-day operational issues.
  • Develop process control audit systems and standard operating procedures for the assigned work area.  Work with production personnel to implement changes.
  • Manage selected process engineering and technical projects in the assigned area. 
  • Demonstrate proficiency in statistical process control, gage capability and designed experiment techniques.
  • Demonstrate good written, verbal and formal presentation skills.
  • Develop an understanding of customer requirements of downstream processes and maintain regular communications with the customer base through process data reviews and joint audits.
  • Demonstrate consistent, effective work-load and project management skills.
  • Show initiative to pursue and recommend new approaches or methods for process improvements.
  •  Establish good working relationships with all coworkers.
  • Develop personal computer skills.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Engineering is required with Chemical Engineering preferred.  It is an entry position for Process Engineers usually directly following the completion of the above degree.  The incumbent must have knowledge of engineering fundamentals, skills to interface and communicate with others and demonstrate initiative.
  • Must have demonstrated computer skills, including Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
