Job Description

Job Summary:

The primary purpose of this position is to provide operational leadership to Intalco Operations. This position is accountable for all operations related to Smelting, Carbon, Maintenance, and Casting of aluminum processes. This position is accountable to ensure compliance to all Federal, State and Local laws and Alcoa Policy.

MAJOR DELIVERABLES:

Effectively utilize the total workforce and continuously evaluate the operational structure and flow and its responsiveness to challenges.

Deliver and drive improvement on key performance metrics such as working capital, quality, FCF, Maintenance spend, etc.

Develop a strategy for the operation and outline and execute to achieve results.  

Be a Health and Safety leader, using tools such as Human Performance and critical controls (to fail safely).  Lead adherence to EHS, ASAT (internal audit), Finance & Business Practices (F&BP), COS, and promote environmental values of the plant.

Drive and support continuous improvement and lean manufacturing (ABS).

Maintain and foster positive employee relations and communications. 

Establish and coordinate Operations’ activities and resources to achieve optimum production levels while ensuring and improving product quality, meeting customer requirements and delivery schedules.

Create and implement improvements to the operational process and associated production processes to reduce costs and increase production

Provide support in the development of a learning organization and the building of an effective relationship, and engaged plant bargaining unit and salaried workforce.

Manage, direct, coach, lead, train and motivate teams to achieve goals and objectives in a timely and safe manner, while continuously striving to improve effectiveness and efficiency.

Ensure optimum utilization of assets utilizing equipment reliability techniques.



Qualifications

BACKGROUND SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

This position requires knowledge of both managerial and engineering principles and theories. The position requires the ability to plan, develop and implement management systems and programs to improve performance and safety.  The position requires highly developed human relations skills necessary to direct and motivate employees.  The incumbent should be versed in Union/Management relationship issues.  This position requires a college level education supplemented by extensive/seasoned experience in plant related activities including lean manufacturing methodologies. A minimum of 10 years of experience in a manufacturing setting preferably in the aluminum processing or similar industry.

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or business
  • 10 or more years of or more years of progressively responsible experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience leading a team
