Job Description

 

The Alcoa Intalco Works facility (Intalco) located in Ferndale, Washington is a primary aluminum smelter which produces commodity grade aluminum, high purity aluminum, and aluminum alloys. Intalco is a heavy industry manufacturing site operating continuously 365-days per year using an electrolytic process which transforms the raw material of powdered aluminum oxide into molten aluminum. The molten aluminum is solidified via complex casting processes prior to shipping to our customers. The facility, which began production in 1966, employs approximately 685 people including 103 maintenance workers and 88 salaried management and technical personnel.

This position is subject to general direction from the Maintenance Manager and functions to support the department in providing technical expertise in mechanical and/or electrical maintenance, modifications, and installations. The position directs, coordinates, and facilitates various area crew (electricians, millwrights, instrument technicians, and other master level crafts) and team activities. Provide on-call maintenance coverage for all assets when available. Incumbents require highly developed interpersonal skills that are very important to effectively perform this function. Incumbents must work independently with a wide variety of personnel at all levels and provide training and support to maintenance personnel. This position requires expertise on a variety of mechanical and/or electrical subjects requiring extensive problem solving capabilities that are aided through extensive experience. This position also requires team building and facilitator skills to enhance the area crew/teams’ ability to maintain the automated operation of machinery and/or process control systems.

Qualifications

 

Basic:

3 years of heavy industrial, commercial, or military experience

3 years supervisory experience

Preferred: 

5 years experience in heavy industry.

Union supervision experience

Maintenance planning experience

Associates or Bachelors degree

5 years experience in mechanical, electrical, electronics, instrumentation, and associated maintenance with an emphasis on electrical maintenance.

Aluminum smelting experience

CMRP certification
