Job Description

We are seeking an Accounting Director who will be a part of the Alcoa Shared Services Lead Team, handling the global core accounting responsibilities for Alcoa Corporation.  This position oversees a high volume of transactions, reconciliation, dashboard reporting, internal controls and audit support, ensures the production of timely and accurate financial statements, reporting, budgets and forecasting.  While guaranteeing an enhanced control environment for all those critical processes and ensuring the delivery of daily activities, this role should focus on delivering superior internal customer satisfaction and drive operational performance to benchmark levels, actively lead the transformation of processes through centralization, standardization and automation opportunities. Reporting to the VP of Shared Services, this person will work closely with the Corporate Accounting team and the senior management team on the finances of operations and auditsAs the leader of the Global Shared Finance organization, this position will also play an important role in developing the talents within the organization.  

Primary Job Functions:

  • Manage the activities of the Global Shared Services Accounting teams to ensure accurate financial information and appropriate support is provided to the different regions' accounting teams
  • Monitor the daily activities of the Global Shared Services Accounting teams through appropriate metrics and daily management boards, and works together with global finance teams to manage priorities
  • Assist accounting management team in the establishment, coordination and administration of internal control procedures/policies
  • Assist with both internal and external audits to ensure complete, timely, and accurate responses to information requests
  • Perform deep dives of process and gap analyses; understand and apply best practices; play a hands-on role in proposing and testing solutions
  • Establish and maintain operational procedures and controls; ensure compliance with US GAAP, SOX and other laws/regulations
  • Work with the Internal Audit Department and the Corporate Accounting Group to identify deficiencies or control improvements in existing processes/procedures, the need for new controls, and to monitor the extent to which such processes/procedures are being followed, while developing and implementing corrective actions inside the department
  • Build strong business partnerships with Finance customers globally to continuously improve customer satisfaction - ensure shared services objectives align with customer priorities
  • Anticipate and ensure development and maintenance of robust, salable shared service capabilities (processes, systems, policies/procedures, organization and compliance) to support the company's growth
  • Define shared service center success metrics and ensure that teams understand, support and meet expected performance levels timely and accurately
  • Leads process transformation activities, such as organizing process kaizens, conducting process benchmarks with other companies, understanding industry trends through dialogues with system supplies or other shared service centers, and ensure identified opportunities are prioritized and captured as quickly as possible
  • Contribute to development of cross functional processes and/or structures that improve the efficiency and effectiveness of operations and financial reporting
  • Works in partnership with the Alcoa Shared Services teams, leaders, and HR on the people Development Program to identify talent, bring in and grow talents within the teams, create succession plans, assess capability gaps, and resolve them
  • Establish goals and priorities within the department
  • Mentor and develop members of the finance team

Qualifications

Basic:
  • 10 years experience or an equivalent combination of education/experience
  • A minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience
  • Global exposure; knowledge and experience in all accounting areas
  • Excellent technical knowledge of all accounting functional areas is required with a very strong understanding of GAAP, SEC, and IRS reporting requirements, and a solid understanding of, and exposure to, Sarbanes-Oxley. This includes the ability to apply the appropriate principles in business
  • Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership techniques and coordination of people and resources in finance and accounting
  • The ability to encourage and build mutual trust, respect, and cooperation among team members is essential
  • Must be able to interact effectively with management at both corporate and operating unit levels

Preferred:

  • CPA certification
