Job Description

Nature and Scope:

This position operates under the guidance of the EHS Manager but will also function independently to meet the goals and objective of the Industrial Hygiene Program. This position requires dealing with highly technical issues and the ability to handle complex employee relations issues. This position assures that appropriate training programs are in place. This position also assures that IH samples are taken and they are in compliance with State, Federal and Alcoa Standard Regulations in a cost effective manner.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:

1. Conducts, supervises and implements industrial hygiene surveys and programs covering recognition, evaluation and control of occupational health hazards.

2. Prepares reports, analyses, and recommendations as a result of monitoring efforts and analyses of data.

3. Manages the SDS Program as required by OSHA Regulation and Alcoa Standard

4. Participates in the presentation of required Health Training to employees like as Hazard Communication, Hearing Conservation, Respiratory Protection and Ergonomics. Training includes making presentations in crew safety meetings.

5. Assists in implementation of current and/or new IH standard requirements through an interaction with Plant Management, Staff (medical, engineering, etc) and hourly employees.

6. Proactively identifys, communicates and resolves health and safety issues and concerns.

7. Perform IH air sampling and any other approved methodology to evaluate employee exposure (Prep, calibration, sampling, shipping, reports).

8. Performs on-site inspections of work areas to monitor compliance to Hazard Communication and other regulations.

9. Participates and acts as Single Point Accountability for any of the Industrial Hygiene ASAT’s (Alcoa Self Assessement tool)

10. Performs Audits on shop floor covering all IH Protocols like Respirator Protection and Hearing Conservation as well as support Medical Survillances.

Qualifications

Minimum qualifications -- a bachelor's degree in occupational health and safety or related field of study and at least 3 years of related experience.

Preferred qualifications -- CIH (Certified Industrial Hygienist) certification is preferred. The incumbent should be familiar with health and safety regulations as they relate to industrial hygiene such as hazard communication, respiratory protection and hearing conservation. Ability to effectively work with, inform and train plant personnel. Certifications in asbestos and hazardous materials are also desirable.
