Job Description

This position is accountable to provide the daily leadership, direction and supervision in the Casthouse to meet safety and production goals. 

Coordinates the process operations and/or ingot finishing process, meeting quality requirements, production schedules, packaging and shipping schedules. This job receives general direction from the Casthouse General Supervisor – Technical, on process and technical issues.

1. Leads the product casting crews and/or ingot processing crews in the performance of their duties; assures coverage of all required jobs, meeting production schedules and maintaining discipline in accordance with established rules of conduct.

2. Coordinates potline metal input to meet product priorities and purity requirements. Collects information on current and anticipated conditions and passes such information on to the following shift.

3. Provides or arranges for the training of subordinates in the effective performance of their duties and responsibilities, and to develop leadership capabilities.

4. Establishes and maintains lines of communication with subordinates, informs and counsels them on policy and procedure matters. Is accommodating, easy to talk to, visible and understanding.

5. Demonstrates leadership in improving the production process through ABS and other process control techniques to analyze and implement change.

6. Exercises authority over total shift operations of the Casthouse as necessary.

7. Maintains an active safety program, ensures the observation of safety precautions and work methods. Sets a good safety example and promotes safety through good quality safety meeting program.

8. Keeps the General Supervisor – Technical and General Supervisor – Operations informed of all problems affecting safety, quality or production.

9. Maintains proactive stance on human relation issues such as EEOC and harassment.

10. Coordinates the operation of the dross reclaim operation.

11. Is responsible for knowing role and responsibilities within Intalco’s Environmental, Health, & Safety management system.

Major Activities/Key Challenges

  • Supervise employees working a rotating 12 hour shift
  • Manage assigned resources in compliance with EHS policies; support key safety initiatives such as Human Performance, Audit processes, Safety Advisors
  • Serve as shift decision maker for such items as planned maintenance priorities, special engineering projects, production/process and crew scheduling
  • Accountable to ensure work hours, headcount, and operational metrics support plan
  • Support departmental Continuous Improvement activities
  • Provide coaching, counseling and support to direct reports to ensure their personal development and positive contribution toward achieving departmental goals
  • Accountable for direct reports following standard operating procedures such that processes remain stable and product quality consistently meets or exceeds customer requirements
  • Maintain open line of communications with his/her counterpart in the customer’s organization.

Qualifications

  • High school or GED
  • 3 Years of experience in a heavy industrial or manufacturing environment
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Excellent communication skills and customer focus skills.
  • Understanding of the importance of safety.
  • Computer skills with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Excellent leadership qualities.
  • Aluminum casting experience.
  • 3-5 years supervisor experience in a heavy manufacturing environment.
