Air New Zealand is on an accelerated journey to become the world's leading digital airline, and we're looking for an Intermediate Software Engineer to help build the next generation of digital products and platforms.
As a Software Engineer, you'll have the opportunity to grow your career while working on meaningful products that support millions of customer journeys and operational experiences.
As part of our Software Engineering Chapter, you'll collaborate with experienced engineers in cross-functional product teams, contribute to modern cloud-native solutions, and build your capability as we continue our evolution toward Agentic Software Engineering through AI-assisted tooling and intelligent workflows.
What you'll be doing:
- Design, build, and enhance modern REST APIs and event-driven microservices
- Develop cloud-native applications using Java, Spring Boot, and AWS
- Collaborate with product managers, designers, and engineers to deliver high-quality customer experiences
- Contribute to engineering standards, testing, automation, and continuous improvement initiatives
- Explore AI-assisted engineering workflows and emerging technologies to improve the way we build software
- Continuously learn, share knowledge, and grow your technical capability within a supportive engineering community
What we're looking for:
- Solid backend software engineering experience
- Experience building APIs, microservices, or distributed applications
- Experience with Java and Spring Boot
- Exposure to AWS cloud services and event-driven technologies such as Kafka is highly desirable
- A strong foundation in software design, quality, security, and performance
- A collaborative mindset, curiosity, and enthusiasm for modern engineering practices and AI-enabled development
- Experience with full stack development, autonomous product teams, or self-directed technical projects would be an advantage
