As part of our Software Engineering Chapter, you’ll work on meaningful technology that supports millions of customer journeys and operational experiences across Air New Zealand. You’ll also help drive our evolution toward Agentic Software Engineering, where AI-assisted tooling and intelligent workflows amplify the impact of high-performing engineering teams.
What you’ll be doing
- Design and build modern REST APIs and event-driven microservices
- Develop scalable cloud-native applications using Java and Spring Boot
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality digital experiences
- Contribute to architecture, engineering standards, and continuous improvement practices
- Explore AI-assisted engineering workflows and emerging technologies
- Mentor engineers and share knowledge across the chapter
What we’re looking for
- Strong backend software engineering experience
- Experience building APIs, distributed systems, and microservices architectures
- Expertise in Java and Spring Boot, or experience in other strongly typed languages with a willingness to learn Java
- Experience with AWS and event-driven technologies such as Kafka
- Strong understanding of system design, reliability, security, and performance
- Curiosity, collaboration, and enthusiasm for modern engineering practices and AI-enabled development
Experience in full stack development, autonomous product teams, or self-directed technical projects would also be highly valued.
Responsibilities and scope will vary depending on the level of appointment, with Senior Software Engineers expected to demonstrate deeper architectural leadership, mentoring capability, and ownership across complex distributed systems.
