Job Description

Job Summary
The General Manager is responsible for the overall leadership and performance of Matna’s cassava starch processing plant, ensuring that operations run with discipline, efficiency, safety, and consistent quality in line with international standards.

This role integrates Production, Quality Assurance, Maintenance, Supply Chain, Commercial, Finance, Security, and People functions into a single, high-performing operational system. The General Manager ensures that factory activities translate into optimal capacity utilization, minimal waste, controlled costs, and reliable output that meets customer and export requirements.

The position requires strong operational leadership with the ability to align people, process, and performance within a structured manufacturing environment.
 

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide overall leadership and coordination of all plant operations to ensure smooth, efficient, and safe production activities
  • Align Production, QA, Maintenance, Supply Chain, Commercial, Finance, Security, and People teams toward common operational goals
  • Ensure strict adherence to quality standards, safety practices, and process discipline across the factory
  • Drive operational efficiency through proper planning, supervision, and resource utilization
  • Oversee production planning to ensure optimal plant capacity utilization and minimal downtime
  • Ensure effective raw material management, yield optimization, and waste reduction across processing activities
  • Strengthen coordination between commercial demand and production output to prevent overproduction and stock aging
  • Maintain strong oversight of maintenance practices to ensure equipment reliability and minimal production interruptions
  • Ensure proper inventory control, documentation, and operational reporting across departments
  • Provide structured operational reports and insights to executive management for decision-making
  • Foster a culture of accountability, professionalism, and continuous improvement across all teams

Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Industrial Management, Food Technology, or related field; MBA or relevant postgraduate qualification is an advantage
  • Minimum of 12–15 years’ experience in FMCG, food processing, agro-processing, or industrial manufacturing environments
  • At least 7 years in a senior operational leadership role managing factory or plant operations
  • Strong understanding of production processes, quality standards, maintenance systems, and supply chain coordination
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams within a processing or manufacturing environment
  • Experience managing shift-based operations and large operational workforces
  • Strong knowledge of operational planning, cost control, and process optimization
  • Excellent leadership, decision-making, and organizational skills
  • High level of discipline, accountability, and professionalism suitable for a high-performance factory environment
