In our U.S. locations, we operate on a hybrid work model with three in-office days and two remote days per week. Starting Q1 2025, we will transition to a four-day in-office schedule, Monday–Thursday. Job Description
GENERAL SUMMARY: The Specialist Career Advisor will support the university’s social change mission by coaching and advising Walden University students and alumni on workplace and professional skills. This person will work collaboratively with the Career Planning and Development team to provide quality career services at scale. This position reports to the Manager of Academic Success - Career Planning and Development.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Assist in designing and delivering career services utilizing best practices for providing services at scale.
· Communicate with students through phone, email, and video regarding career and professional needs.
· Meet with students to assist in career exploration, job searching, resume preparation, cover letter writing, interviewing skills, and other career-related topics.
· Develop and update career services web content and resources.
· Foster relationships with employers and approve job postings.
· Maintain metrics for measuring individual and departmental activity and success, track student progress, and participate in continuous improvement initiatives.
· Plan and implement workshops and informational programs.
· Represent the department on committees, working groups, and at events as needed.
· Coordinate and assist other Career Planning and Development staff on projects as needed.
· Other duties as assigned by the Manager of Academic Success - Career Planning and Development.
Qualifications

· Ability to communicate with students on a one-to-one basis.
· Ability to work effectively with faculty and academic program leadership.
· Knowledge of career services tools, strategies, and resources.
· Strong writing, proof reading, and editing skills.
· Strong verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal and organizational skills.
· Ability to prioritize work, multi-task, set and meet deadlines.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
· Master’s degree with a minimum of one year of experience with career services.
· Experience working with non-traditional students at the master’s and doctoral level preferred.
· Strong research, problem-solving, interpersonal, and oral and written communication skills.
· Ability to travel as business needs require.
· Strong computer skills in Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook required; experience in online social networking, website and multi-media design and maintenance, career services software, webinar delivery, and online distance-learning environment a plus.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS:
· Ability to deliver presentations to large audiences online via webinar and offline at academic residencies and other meetings.
· Ability to collaborate and communicate clearly with other staff on team projects.
· Ability to write and edit blog articles on career-related topics.
TECHNOLOGY AND METRICS:
· Ability to use online social networking sites such as LinkedIn and support students in using these tools.
· Ability to master new software and systems.
· Ability to develop and track metrics and advising records using Excel, internal information, and appointment scheduling systems.
PROJECT MANAGEMENT:
Ability to work independently and complete small projects with little supervision.
Additional Information
In support of the pay transparency laws enacted across the country, the expected salary range for this position is between $42661.58 and $75065.24. Actual pay will be adjusted based on job-related factors permitted by law, such as experience and training; geographic location; licensure and certifications; market factors; departmental budgets; and responsibility.
