Adevinta is a Global Marketplaces specialist with a family of local digital brands in 16 countries. We build connections with more than 200 million people each month through our household name brands in Europe, Latin America and North Africa; including Leboncoin.fr, OLX, Vibbo.com, Fotocasa, Infojobs and Shpock to name a few. Our business is constantly looking to leverage new innovations, adapt and capitalise on changes in the market. We are always looking for new disruptive business models and opportunities to expand our brand portfolio. The group is listed on the Oslo stock exchange.
One of the missions of Adevinta Technology is to develop the global product platforms and technology infrastructure necessary to create developer pipelines, big data processing, media management, payment, security and identity systems. With over 250 million monthly active users under our belt, we are able to harness huge amounts of data to provide insights on a global scale. Together with our deep local expertise, we have a winning combination.
We are currently looking for a junior data engineer to join our team of data engineers in Barcelona. As a member of the Data team, you will join our journey as we discover how to build state of the art data processing and Machine Learning solutions for Adevinta, with emphasis on volume, velocity and privacy. The event data we collect from all Adevinta sites around the world is essential to our business - including feeding marketplaces with low-latency (“realtime”) updates, visitor insights analysis and targeted advertisement. We are solving exciting problems at scale, from gathering up to 900 million events per day worldwide while keeping users privacy and data security in mind.
You will be part of the design, architecture and development of a modern data processing product to offer as a service to Adevinta sites around the world, for their needs for a variety of purposes, such as classification, insights and understanding and modelling user behavior. As part of the global Adevinta organization you will also have the opportunity to learn from and share knowledge with data scientists and engineers across Adevinta. We encourage a diverse, collaborative and creative work environment, where you will develop and push for the state-of-the-art in big data processing at the same time as building reliable and highly scalable services.
Join us to create an amazing data platform team.
Your role will involve:
Working together with other teams to understand their current processes and missing opportunities around data engineering and machine learning development.
Working on solutions to cover those needs, which might involve either exploring the state of the art of existing solutions, developing new ones or something in between.
Working closely with those teams to help them onboarding our platform and services, track their progress, and learn from their feedback.
Working with a wide spectrum of technologies (Kubernetes, AWS, Spark, Kafka, Machine Learning frameworks and tools, Argo CD, build systems and languages), together with interdisciplinary teams composed of software/data/ml engineers, data scientists, analysts and product specialists.
We expect the candidates to have:
A degree in Computer Science or related branch
Knowledge about some data related technologies such as big data frameworks, streaming applications, databases, job orchestrators, …
Knowledge about some Cloud providers (AWS, GCP, Azure, …) and Linux based systems.
An understanding of the best practices for developing software (version control, CI/CD, automation, peer-programming, documentation, testing, …)
The desire to be constantly learning, and see the coming challenges as a great opportunity to keep growing.
We will also value things like:
You have an overall understanding of what makes Data Engineering unique with respect to the general processes for software development.
Knowledge about Scala and Python for which we already have several projects.
You really believe that Functional Programming and the type system can make your code more reliable and feels more comfortable to work with.
Experience with or desire to learn the Rust programming language so we can build new products with it.
You are not afraid of DevOps, and understand that automating your delivery processes, and dealing with infrastructure is as important as writing lines of code, documenting, or communicating your achievements.
You can move comfortably between the long term vision and the short term needs to deliver incremental value.
This role will be based in Barcelona.
