Acumatica is looking for a Senior Business Analyst to join the Vertrax Energy product team. Vertrax Energy is a cloud-based ERP solution built on Acumatica and integrated with Smartdrops delivery management for the downstream oil and gas industry. The role focuses on distribution and supply chain functionality spanning sales, purchasing, warehousing, inventory, pricing, freight, tax, and connections to operational systems.
The Senior Business Analyst serves as a trusted bridge among customers, product stakeholders, developers, and quality teams. This person leads discovery and solution design for complex, cross-functional initiatives; owns requirements from concept through release; and provides functional guidance across the delivery team. Working with a high degree of independence, the Senior Business Analyst anticipates dependencies and risks and ensures delivered functionality is scalable, testable, and aligned with customer and product objectives.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead analysis and discovery for complex business scenarios, customer pain points, and product requirements with customers, partners, and internal stakeholders.
- Own the design of new features and enhancements, including functional specifications, current- and future-state workflows, process flows, mockups or wireframes, and measurable acceptance criteria.
- Assess business impact, backward compatibility, cross-functional dependencies, and data or integration risks; recommend practical solutions and negotiate scope and priorities with stakeholders.
- Decompose approved initiatives into clear technical user stories and development tasks; coordinate implementation details, resolve ambiguity, manage requirement changes, and maintain traceability to the intended business outcome.
- Provide functional expertise across Acumatica distribution workflows, including Sales, Purchasing, Warehousing, Inventory Management, pricing, freight, tax, and related financial processes, and advise stakeholders on solution options and tradeoffs.
- Lead the analysis and documentation of data flows and integration requirements between Acumatica and external dispatch, delivery, inventory, tank monitoring, CRM, and other industry systems; create mapping or API specifications when applicable.
- Serve as a senior functional partner to developers, QA and automated testing engineers, technical writers, support, implementation teams, and external partners; review deliverables and provide guidance to other analysts as needed.
- Develop comprehensive test plans and scenarios covering standard use, data migration, invalid data, high-volume conditions, and integrations; perform acceptance testing, validate results, and verify corrected defects.
- Lead functional readiness for User Acceptance Testing, releases, deployments, customer demonstrations, user training, and post-go-live support; proactively identify and address readiness risks.
- Investigate escalated support issues and contribute to root-cause analysis; maintain product, process, and support documentation; and identify opportunities for product improvement, process consistency, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain, Information Technology, Computer Science, Systems Analysis, or a related field; equivalent relevant experience may be considered.
- 5+ years of experience in business or system analysis, ERP functional consulting, or product analysis, including ownership of complex or cross-functional initiatives and development of functional specifications and workflow diagrams.
- 4+ years of experience in one or more distribution domains: Supply Chain, Sales, Purchasing, Warehousing, Inventory Management, or E-commerce.
- Demonstrated ability to lead the requirements lifecycle from discovery through design, development, testing, and release, translating business needs into clear technical user stories with acceptance criteria, process flows, and mockups or wireframes.
- Experience working directly with developers, quality teams, and business users, including coordinating acceptance testing, resolving requirement questions, and validating delivered functionality.
- Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to structure large amounts of information, decompose complex systems and processes, and identify dependencies, risks, and practical tradeoffs.
- Strong written and verbal communication, facilitation, and stakeholder-management skills in English, including the ability to influence decisions and build constructive relationships across business and technical teams.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple high-priority initiatives, navigate ambiguity, adhere to designated priorities, and provide functional guidance or peer review to other team members.
- Quality-focused mindset, curiosity, and the ability to model user behavior, identify application flaws, and learn new business and technical concepts quickly.
- Availability to work primarily in the Eastern Time Zone, with occasional flexibility based on project needs.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience implementing, configuring, supporting, or extending Acumatica or another modern cloud ERP platform; Acumatica badges are a plus.
- Understanding of fuel distribution, logistics, downstream energy operations, or related industry workflows.
- Experience with ERP integrations, APIs, or web services, including REST or SOAP; working knowledge of SQL, JSON, or XML is beneficial.
