Job Description
We are on the lookout for a newly created Director of Finance to provides strategic financial leadership for the hotel and serves as a key business partner to the General Manager and Leadership Team. The role is responsible for safeguarding the hotel’s financial interests, driving profitability, maintaining strong financial controls, ensuring accurate and timely reporting, and supporting sound commercial decision-making.
The Director of Finance oversees the overall Finance function and ensures compliance with applicable financial, tax, statutory, corporate and brand requirements while safeguarding the assets and interests of the hotel and its owners/investors.
How your day looks like?
Partner with the General Manager and Leadership Team on the hotel’s financial performance, business strategy and operational decisions.
Lead the annual budgeting, forecasting and business planning process, ensuring realistic assumptions and alignment with business objectives.
Monitor revenue, payroll, operating expenses, GOP and other key financial indicators and proactively identify opportunities to improve profitability.
Analyse monthly financial performance against budget, forecast and prior year, identifying key variances, risks and opportunities with clear recommendations.
Prepare and present accurate and timely monthly financial and management reports to the General Manager, owners and relevant corporate/regional stakeholders.
Oversee the hotel’s accounting functions, including General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Income Audit, Credit, Cash Management and Payroll-related financial controls.
Maintain effective cash-flow management, including receivables, payables, cash balances, banking and timely deposit of funds.
Ensure all balance sheet accounts and bank reconciliations are completed accurately and on time.
Establish and maintain robust internal controls, policies and procedures to safeguard hotel assets and minimise financial and operational risks.
Ensure compliance with applicable taxation, statutory requirements, licences, permits, leases, contracts and financial regulations.
Lead and coordinate internal and external financial audits, ensuring timely resolution of audit findings.
Review contracts, commercial proposals and financial commitments and advise management on their financial implications.
Oversee CAPEX planning and expenditure, including business cases, return-on-investment analysis, budget monitoring and financial governance.
Work closely with operational departments to improve cost control, productivity and flow-through, while maintaining guest experience and operational standards.
Provide financial insights and challenge HODs constructively to strengthen departmental ownership of budgets and financial results.
Ensure accurate financial evaluation of business initiatives, promotions, investments and operational changes.
Maintain appropriate controls over hotel assets, inventories, purchasing and expenditure.
Lead, coach and develop the Finance Team, ensuring clear accountability, succession planning and continuous improvement.
Ensure Finance systems, processes and reporting remain efficient, accurate and aligned with business requirements.
Maintain confidentiality and the highest standards of integrity, governance and professional ethics.
What we are looking for
Degree or professional qualification in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline.
Professional accounting qualification such as CPA, ACCA, CA or equivalent is advantageous.
Significant Finance leadership experience, preferably within the hotel or hospitality industry.
Strong understanding of hotel financial operations, budgeting, forecasting, P&L management, cash flow, internal controls and audit.
Strong commercial and analytical capability with the ability to translate financial information into practical business recommendations.
Experience working with hotel owners, General Managers and senior leadership teams.
Strong leadership, communication and stakeholder-management skills.
High level of integrity, attention to detail and accountability.
Comfortable operating in a fast-paced environment and balancing strategic leadership with hands-on financial oversight.
