Job Description

Role Summary

The Shift Engineer is responsible for supporting the smooth and safe operation of the hotel’s engineering and maintenance functions during the assigned shift. The role involves monitoring building systems, responding to maintenance requests, troubleshooting technical issues, and ensuring that all engineering operations are maintained according to hotel standards, safety requirements, and operational needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor the operation of the hotel’s electrical, mechanical, HVAC, plumbing, and other engineering systems during the assigned shift.
  • Respond promptly to maintenance requests, equipment breakdowns, and urgent engineering issues.
  • Perform basic troubleshooting and coordinate corrective maintenance to ensure the timely resolution of technical problems.
  • Conduct regular inspections of plant rooms, equipment, public areas, guest rooms, and back-of-house areas.
  • Support preventive maintenance activities and ensure scheduled tasks are completed properly.
  • Monitor critical equipment and report any abnormal conditions, failures, or safety concerns to the Engineering management.
  • Coordinate with other hotel departments regarding maintenance requests and operational requirements.
  • Ensure guest-related engineering issues are handled promptly and professionally to minimize disruption.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, breakdowns, inspections, and shift handovers.
  • Support the proper operation of HVAC, electrical, water supply, fire and life safety, and other building systems.
  • Assist external contractors and service providers during maintenance, inspections, and technical works.
  • Ensure all engineering activities are carried out in accordance with hotel policies, safety procedures, and applicable regulations.
  • Conduct effective shift handovers and communicate all pending issues and critical matters to the incoming shift.
  • Support energy and utility monitoring initiatives and report unusual consumption or equipment performance.
  • Perform any other engineering duties assigned by the Chief Engineer or Engineering Management.

Qualifications

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering.
  • Fresh graduates are welcome to apply; 0–2 years of relevant experience is preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of electrical, mechanical, HVAC, plumbing, and building systems.
  • Basic understanding of preventive and corrective maintenance.
  • Ability to troubleshoot technical issues and identify basic equipment faults.
  • Good knowledge of engineering safety procedures and HSE requirements.
  • Good command of English, both written and spoken; Arabic is an advantage.
  • Good computer skills, including Microsoft Office.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work shifts, weekends, public holidays, and night shifts as required.
  • Highly motivated, responsible, and willing to learn and develop within a hotel engineering environment.
