Job Description
- Consistently provide professional, engaging, and friendly service to guests and colleagues.
- Clean and maintain assigned public areas throughout the hotel, including lobbies, corridors, elevators, entrances, meeting spaces, and other designated areas.
- Clean and maintain public restrooms to established Fairmont cleanliness and presentation standards.
- Empty garbage and recycling from assigned public areas and properly dispose of waste.
- Clean mirrors, interior windows, glass surfaces, doors, and other guest-facing surfaces.
- Dust and clean furniture, fixtures, decorative elements, and other surfaces throughout assigned areas.
- Maintain brass, metal, and other specialty finishes to ensure they remain clean and polished.
- Vacuum carpets and rugs and perform spot cleaning as needed.
- Sweep, mop, and maintain hard-surface flooring according to departmental standards.
- Maintain the cleanliness and presentation of high-traffic areas throughout the day.
- Move and return furniture, fixtures, and equipment to their proper locations as required.
- Assist with setup and breakdown of public spaces, meeting areas, special events, and hotel functions as assigned.
- Monitor public areas for cleanliness, maintenance concerns, safety hazards, and guest needs.
- Report maintenance deficiencies promptly to the appropriate department or Housekeeping leadership.
- Communicate effectively with Engineering/Maintenance regarding maintenance issues identified throughout public areas.
- Respond to guest questions and requests in a warm, courteous, and professional manner.
- Maintain awareness of hotel amenities, restaurants, outlets, services, and local attractions to assist guests when appropriate.
- Maintain appropriate awareness and discretion when working around guests and VIPs.
- Follow all established Housekeeping Standard Operating Procedures, including key control, sign-in/sign-out procedures, lost and found, cleaning standards, and sequence of service.
- Maintain proper control and accountability of master, sectional, and general keys in accordance with hotel policy.
- Follow all safety, sanitation, chemical handling, and workplace safety procedures.
- Maintain a safe work environment for guests and colleagues at all times.
- Complete all required health and safety training and follow applicable hotel safety programs and practices.
- Adhere to all Fairmont New Orleans environmental policies, sustainability initiatives, and waste-reduction practices.
- Properly use, clean, and maintain housekeeping equipment and supplies.
- Assist with the safe operation of specialized equipment, including carpet extractors, floor machines, buffers, and other equipment as trained.
- Maintain housekeeping closets, storage areas, and equipment in a clean and organized condition.
- Assist the Housekeeping team during periods of high occupancy, special events, and other operational demands.
- Maintain a professional appearance consistent with Fairmont New Orleans grooming and uniform standards.
- Protect guest privacy and hotel property at all times.
- Perform additional duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Previous Housekeeping, Public Area Attendant, Janitorial, or hotel experience is an asset.
- Previous experience in a luxury hotel or upscale hospitality environment preferred.
- Previous overnight or evening experience is an asset.
- Previous experience operating commercial cleaning equipment is preferred.
- Experience with carpet cleaners, floor buffers, extractors, or other heavy-duty cleaning equipment is an asset.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Strong interpersonal and problem-solving abilities.
- Highly responsible, dependable, and reliable.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively.
- Ability to remain calm, courteous, and professional when interacting with guests.
- Strong guest service mindset and ability to respond appropriately to guest needs.
- Ability to follow established SOPs, safety procedures, and departmental standards.
- Ability to work flexible schedules including mornings, evenings, overnight shifts, weekends, holidays, and extended shifts as operationally required.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
