Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated **Chief Engineer** to lead and manage all engineering operations for our organization in Kochi, India. In this pivotal role, you will oversee the technical infrastructure, equipment, and systems while ensuring optimal facility performance, regulatory compliance, and operational excellence. The Chief Engineer will be instrumental in driving innovation, fostering a collaborative engineering culture, and delivering exceptional results through strategic planning, decisive leadership, and a commitment to continuous improvement.

  • Oversee the setup, installation, commissioning, and maintenance of all hotel/facility systems and technical infrastructure, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, fire safety, and building systems in compliance with local Indian codes and regulations
  • Lead the coordination of contractors, vendors, and external stakeholders for all engineering-related projects, ensuring timely completion, adherence to budget, and high standards of workmanship
  • Develop, implement, and continuously refine preventive maintenance schedules and protocols for all equipment and systems to ensure optimal operational readiness and longevity
  • Recruit, train, and develop a high-performing engineering team, fostering a collaborative, efficient, and service-oriented culture that prioritizes safety, quality, and continuous learning
  • Conduct regular inspections and analytical assessments of all engineering systems to identify potential risks, inefficiencies, and opportunities for improvement
  • Manage the engineering department's budget effectively, ensuring cost-efficient procurement of tools, supplies, equipment, and materials while maintaining quality standards
  • Identify and implement energy-efficient practices and sustainable technologies to reduce operational costs and environmental impact
  • Develop and implement comprehensive emergency protocols and contingency plans for system failures or technical issues, ensuring minimal disruption to operations
  • Collaborate with safety, security, and compliance teams to maintain adherence to all fire, life safety, and regulatory requirements specific to Indian standards
  • Prepare detailed progress reports on engineering projects, highlighting risks, delays, and recommendations for stakeholder transparency and informed decision-making
  • Establish long-term maintenance strategies and asset management plans to sustain the facility's technical systems and infrastructure
  • Provide technical expertise and support during critical operational phases, ensuring swift resolution of issues and optimal system performance

Qualifications

**Required Skills and Competencies:**

  • Extensive knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and fire safety systems
  • Proficiency in building systems management and technical infrastructure oversight

**Required Experience:**

  • Minimum 10+ years of progressive experience in engineering operations management
  • Proven experience leading and managing engineering teams of varying sizes
  • Demonstrated expertise in facility maintenance and building systems management
  • Experience with commissioning, pre-opening, or large-scale facility projects
  • Strong background in compliance with building codes, safety regulations, and industry standards
  • Experience managing budgets and procurement processes
  • Track record of successfully coordinating multi-disciplinary teams and stakeholders

**Required Education and Certifications:**

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related engineering discipline
  • Valid professional engineering license or equivalent qualification
  • Certifications in facility management, building systems, or related field (preferred)
  • Knowledge of Indian building codes, safety standards, and local regulatory requirements

**Domain Expertise:**

  • Hospitality, hotel operations, or large facility management experience (preferred)
  • Understanding of sustainable building practices and green technologies
  • Familiarity with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS)
  • Knowledge of occupational health and safety standards
