Job Description
Reporting to the Financial Controller, the Hotel Accountant is responsible for supporting the day to day operation of the Finance Department while ensuring the accuracy, integrity and efficiency of all financial processes across the hotel.
You will work across all areas of hotel finance, including payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, forecasting, budgeting, financial reporting, cash flow management and compliance, while partnering with operational leaders to maximise business performance.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Operations
- Support the management of all hotel finance functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable and payroll.
- Monitor cash flow, banking activities and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Ensure compliance with financial controls, company policies and statutory requirements.
- Assist in maintaining accurate financial records and reporting systems.
Reporting & Analysis
- Support with preparing weekly, monthly and annual financial reports.
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting and financial planning processes.
- Analyse business performance and identify opportunities to improve profitability.
- Provide accurate financial information and insights to support operational decision-making.
- Monitor departmental costs and assist leaders in achieving budget targets.
Business Partnering
- Work closely with Department Heads to drive financial awareness and performance.
- Support leaders with forecasting, cost control and profitability initiatives.
- Provide guidance and recommendations to improve operational efficiencies.
Leadership & Team Development
- Support the leadership, coaching and development of the Finance team.
- Assist with onboarding, training and performance management activities.
- Foster a collaborative, positive and high-performing team culture.
- Act as the Financial Controller in their absence when required.
Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you will bring:
- Tertiary qualifications in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline.
- Experience in a supervisory, management accounting or similar finance role.
- Previous hospitality, hotel or accommodation industry experience highly regarded.
- Strong knowledge of payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, GST, BAS, PAYG, superannuation and financial compliance requirements.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office skills.
- Experience preparing financial reports, budgets and forecasts.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with excellent attention to detail.
- Outstanding communication and stakeholder management skills.
- A proactive, hands-on approach with the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.
- A passion for hospitality and continuous improvement.
