Are you a passionate hospitality leader who thrives in a fast-paced luxury environment? Do you love mentoring talented people while delivering exceptional client experiences and driving commercial success?

We are seeking an experienced Director of Conference & Events to lead our Conference & Events Sales team. From executive meetings and corporate conferences to gala dinners and landmark celebrations, you'll help position Sofitel Sydney Wentworth as Australia's leading luxury conference and events destination. 

Reporting to the Commercial Director, you will lead a high-performing Conference & Events Sales team responsible for converting conference, event and group enquiries into exceptional guest experiences. You'll be a visible, hands-on leader—coaching your team, managing key client relationships and ensuring every opportunity is managed with professionalism, creativity and genuine care.

As the Director of Conference & Events, you'll play a pivotal role in delivering both commercial success and exceptional guest experiences by:

  • Leading, inspiring and developing a high-performing Conference & Events Sales team, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration and continuous development.
  • Driving revenue growth by maximising conversion, business development opportunities and strategic account performance across conferences, events and group business.
  • Managing high-value conference, event and group enquiries from initial enquiry through to confirmation.
  • Supporting complex negotiations, proposals and contract management for key clients.
  • Building trusted relationships through site inspections, planning meetings and personalised service.
  • Influencing sales strategy through forecasting, reporting, commercial analysis and performance optimisation.
  • Ensuring a seamless transition from sales to hotel operations, setting every event up for success.
  • Identifying opportunities to enhance systems, processes and the overall client journey.
  • Collaborating closely with Sales, Marketing, Revenue, Finance and Hotel Operations to deliver exceptional commercial and guest outcomes.

Qualifications

About You

You're an experienced Sales Leader who enjoys developing people as much as winning business. You build trusted client relationships, bring commercial curiosity, and know how to balance strategic thinking with hands-on leadership. You thrive in a luxury environment where attention to detail, collaboration and exceptional service are non-negotiable.

You'll also bring:

  • Demonstrated leadership experience within Conference & Events Sales or a comparable hotel sales environment.
  • Proven success driving revenue growth, conversion and commercial performance.
  • Outstanding coaching, mentoring and people leadership capability.
  • Strong negotiation and relationship management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Exceptional organisational skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Advanced knowledge of Delphi, Opera and Microsoft Office.
  • The ability to manage competing priorities while maintaining service excellence.
  • A collaborative leadership style with a commitment to continuous improvement.
