Job Description
The Group Sales Manager is responsible for generating group business and event revenue for the hotel through proactive sales efforts, relationship development, and strategic account management. This role focuses on identifying new business opportunities, cultivating relationships with corporate clients, meeting planners, and event organizers, and securing group bookings that align with the hotel’s revenue objectives. The Group Sales Manager oversees the entire sales process from prospecting and proposal development through contract negotiation and coordination with internal departments to ensure successful event execution. This role requires strong sales acumen, hospitality expertise, and the ability to build long-term client relationships within the luxury hospitality market.
This full-time position has an annual compensation range of $100,000-110,000 per year.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Identify, solicit, and secure new group business for the hotel including corporate meetings, conferences, social events, and group travel
Develop and maintain relationships with corporate clients, meeting planners, travel agencies, and event professionals
Actively prospect for new accounts through networking, industry events, client outreach, and market research
Conduct site inspections and property tours for prospective clients
Represent the hotel at trade shows, sales missions, and networking events
Manage assigned group accounts and maintain ongoing relationships to encourage repeat business
Maintain accurate client profiles and account history within the sales management system
Serve as the primary point of contact for group clients throughout the sales process
Develop customized proposals that align with client needs and the hotel’s capabilities
Negotiate contracts, rates, and event terms in accordance with hotel guidelines
Coordinate closely with the Sales and Events team to ensure seamless transition from sales to event execution
Communicate group requirements including room blocks, meeting space, catering needs, and event logistics to operational departments
Participate in event planning meetings and pre-convention meetings when required
Ensure that all event details are documented accurately in Banquet Event Orders (BEOs) and related documents
Maintain communication with clients regarding event details, updates, and changes
Achieve assigned group sales revenue goals and booking targets
Monitor booking pace and adjust sales strategies to meet revenue objectives
Identify opportunities to upsell event services, catering, and additional hotel offerings
Develop strategies to maximize group room nights, meeting space utilization, and food and beverage revenue
Analyze market trends and competitor activity to maintain a competitive sales strategy
Maintain accurate records of sales activity, client communications, and contracts within the sales management system
Prepare and submit weekly sales reports, forecasts, and pipeline updates
Track group room blocks, pick-up reports, and attrition timelines
Ensure all contracts and agreements comply with hotel policies and legal requirements
Maintain organized records of all group sales documentation
Work closely with the Events, Banquets, Food & Beverage, and Front Office teams to ensure successful execution of group events
Coordinate with Revenue Management to align pricing strategies and group availability
Communicate group arrival details, VIP status, and special requirements to operational departments
Participate in internal meetings related to group business and event planning
Qualifications
Minimum 3–5 years' experience in hospitality sales, group sales, or event sales
Experience in luxury hotels, high-end venues, or hospitality environments preferred
Proven ability to generate group business and achieve sales targets
Strong negotiation and relationship-building skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Proficiency with sales management systems such as Delphi, Opera, or similar platforms
Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
