Job Description
We are seeking a reliable, detail-focused Part Time (Minimum 8 hours per week) Kitchen Hand to join our culinary team and play a vital role in delivering a seamless and exceptional dining experience for our guests.
This role is essential to the success of our kitchen operations. It requires strong work ethic, physical capability, professionalism, and a commitment to high hygiene standards. You are the start and finish of an exceptional culinary journey - ensuring our kitchen operates safely, efficiently, and immaculately at all times.
As a Kitchen Hand, you will be responsible for:
- Maintaining exceptional cleanliness and hygiene standards across all kitchen and food preparation area
- Washing, sanitising, and storing all cutlery, crockery, glassware, kitchen equipment, and utensils using industrial dishwashers or hand-washing method
- Cleaning floors, walls, benches, and workspaces in line with cleaning schedules
- Cleaning and maintaining food storage areas, including fridges, freezers, cool rooms, and dry stores, in accordance with food safety requirements
- Regular removal of rubbish and waste, ensuring kitchen and waste areas remain clean and free of refuse
- Daily cleaning of industrial bins and waste areas
- Supporting chefs with basic food preparation as required
- Clearing the loading dock of any kitchen inventory
- Adhering to and supporting all health, safety, and food hygiene regulations
- Reporting any hazards, damages, or concerns promptly to the Executive Chef or leadership team
- Carrying out other reasonable kitchen duties as required to support operations
Qualifications
- Flexibility to work a rotating 7 day roster with shifts that may very with starts times of 08:00am and 17:00pm including weekends & public holidays
- Full NZ working rights
- Previous experience in a similar role (minimum 6 months preferred)
- Strong physical fitness, including the ability to stand for up to 8 hours per shift
- Ability to lift items over 10kg safely and repeatedly
- A strong sense of responsibility and reliability - this role requires consistency and accountability
- Ability to work efficiently, independently, and as part of a team
- Good verbal communication skills
- A positive attitude and willingness to learn and grow within Sofitel
