Job Description

We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Kitchen Intern to join our culinary team in Nairobi, Kenya. This exciting opportunity offers hands-on experience in a professional kitchen environment, where you will learn and grow under the guidance of experienced chefs.

  • Assist in the preparation of meals according to standard recipes, ensuring portion control and minimizing waste
  • Apply necessary precautions related to the hotel's food safety and hygiene standards (HACCP)
  • Clean and maintain all equipment in the food production area
  • Attend all briefings, meetings, and training sessions as assigned by management
  • Support the kitchen team in various tasks, including food prep, plating, and kitchen organization
  • Learn and practice proper food handling, storage, and sanitation procedures
  • Collaborate with other kitchen staff to ensure smooth operations during service
  • Assist in inventory management and stock rotation
  • Participate in menu development and recipe testing under chef supervision
  • Contribute to maintaining a clean and organized kitchen environment

Qualifications

  • Basic culinary training or education in a related field
  • Knowledge of food safety and hygiene practices
  • Basic knife skills and willingness to learn various kitchen techniques
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team
  • Good physical health and stamina to work in a fast-paced kitchen environment
  • Strong communication skills in English
  • Eagerness to learn and positive attitude
  • Detail-oriented with a focus on quality and consistency
  • Flexibility to work various shifts, including weekends and holidays
  • Basic math skills for recipe conversions and inventory management
  • Ability to follow instructions and adhere to standard operating procedures
  • Interest in local and international cuisines
