Job Description

Reporting to the Chief Engineer, the Assistant Director of Engineering is an integral part of the team, ensuring that Engineering, Health & Safety, Colleague and Guest Experience are in turn supporting every area of hotel operations. Showcase your strengths as an Assistant Director of Engineering where you will oversee the day-to-day engineering activities of both the building and your team.

What you will be doing:

  • Work closely with the Engineering leadership team to exceed guest and staff expectations of the property.
  • Lead and develop the Engineering team; including day-to-day operations, planning, task allocation, recruitment, ongoing coaching, performance management, payroll, etc.
  • Scheduling and coordination of contract work on specific projects.
  • Maintain inventory, order parts, supplies, tools and materials in accordance with approved budgets.
  • Conduct inspection of rooms, public areas and Heart of House for condition and quality of work.
  • Work alongside the Chief Engineer in planning and implementing capital projects.
  • Coordinate preventative maintenance program for guest rooms, public areas and safety systems with a focus to improve efficiency, profitability and service levels.
  • Participate in the hotel Sustainability Committee to contribute to energy savings.
  • Monitor and update the fire safety plan and building evacuation plan.
  • Establish and maintain strong working relationships with all departments throughout the hotel, project consultants and third-party contractors.
  • Comply with local legislation and corporate policies & procedures, including all associated health & safety protocols.

Qualifications

Your experience and skills include:

  • Previous experience in a comparable leadership role, including familiarity with facilities components and building systems (HVAC, electrical, building exteriors, building automation systems, etc.)
  • Fifth Class Power Engineer Certificate is preferred
  • Pool operator’s certificate and experience in pool maintenance and pool chemistry is preferred
  • Highly organized and process oriented, while displaying and ensuring accountability of self and team members
  • Ability to work well under pressure and adapt as necessary, while taking initiative and being a self-starter
  • Strong computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Must be available to work a variety of shifts including mornings, evenings, overnights, weekends
