Job Description

The Director of Student Success (SS) will be an integral part of determining how student success looks on-site, for students traveling internationally and engaged in experiential learning programs. Director of SS will make recommendations as to how to implement standardized student engagement models in API programs around the world and will be a primary source of support to our international teams abroad managing on-site emergencies. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist in managing mass emergencies and providing emergency support to teams and students on-site; includes managing after-hours emergency phone line throughout the year
  • Lead efforts to redesign pre-departure content in line with API’s renewed emphasis on career readiness and intercultural competence; ensure all materials are updated for all sessions and accurate information is disseminated across international teams
  • Standardize the student experience to ensure consistency on-site with API teams, particularly across  student development of career readiness skills and global workforce preparations.
  • Perform Student Case Management for customized, high school, college and internship programs abroad within a portfolio; conduct medical follow-ups, respond to any participant concerns, manage participant issues in consultation with VP, Health, Safety & Student Success and on-site Resident Coordinators and Resident Directors, etc.
  • Oversee the student evaluation process, including creating summaries and program evaluations for programs within a portfolio and disseminate as necessary; discern and incorporate feedback for program improvements and staff training.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from accredited college or university; preference for master’s degree in psychology, sociology or higher education administration. 
  • 7-10 years of prior work experience in the field of international education.
  • Personal experience living, studying and/or working abroad.
  • Excellent time management skills, organizational skills and ability to multitask.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to communicate and work cooperatively and collaboratively with multiple people, across multiple departments, especially under pressure and with high levels of emotion.
  • Professional demeanor and ability to exercise strict confidentiality.
  • Experience responding to or managing student incidents abroad is preferred.
  • Competence in a second language is preferred.
