Job Description

Position Summary

The Property Accountant works under the direction of the Accounting Manager, Property Operations and is responsible for the preparation and maintenance of assigned sets of books for various operating properties; tracking advances made by Abode Communities; tracking and reconciliation of various balance sheet schedules; review receivables from tenants; and review and approve accounts payable invoices. Duties include:

  • Prepare and review trial balances and general ledgers.   Prepare and post general journal entries necessary for periodic close;\
  • Prepare monthly financial statements, including budget to actual/variance reports, and other requested reports for management;
  • Maintain balance sheet schedules and copies of supporting documentation for review by Controller and external auditor;
  • Prepare monthly bank reconciliations;
  • Review and approve various accounts payable invoices;
  • Schedule payment of invoices based upon available operating cash;
  • Work with property managers on tenant past due balances; including reconciliation of MRI Affordable Housing Compliance Software reports to general ledger balances;
  • Process, review and verify deposits for operating properties, and communicate with property managers any discrepancies noted.
  • Special projects as designated by Accounting Manager, Division Leadership, or designee

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or business, or relevant field.
  • 3 to 5 years’ experience in affordable housing, property management, non-profit accounting, and multiple sets of books preferred.
  • Flexible and willingness to learn new software, systems, and process.
  • Strong communicator and able to take initiative to resolve tasks and issues

Compensation and Benefits 

The target annualized salary range for this role is $75,000 - $ 85,000; offers are commensurate with the education and experience of the finalist. Additionally, a full benefits package is offered which includes: health, dental and vision insurance, long term disability insurance, 401K plan, paid vacation and sick leave benefits. Abode Communities' corporate staff work on a 9/80 schedule allowing for every other Friday off.
