    Job Description

    Abercrombie & Fitch is seeking a Legal Counsel to provide labor and employment support to all facets of the Company’s operations, including Home Office, Distributions Centers and Stores. This role will primarily support the Company’s operations in North America but will also have opportunity for exposure to legal matters around the world, including in the Company’s EMEA and APAC regions. This position reports directly to the Vice President & Associate General Counsel and will also work closely with other members of the Legal and Compliance teams; business partners throughout the Company, including members of the Human Resources, Asset Protection and Stores teams; and outside counsel.

    What will you be doing?

    • Serve as the main point of contact from the Legal team to business partners in North America, to advise on a broad spectrum of employment law matters, including: recruitment and hiring; compensation and benefits; employee relations; wage and hour matters; performance management; leaves of absence and accommodation; ADA accessibility matters; workplace safety; discrimination and harassment; government audits; immigration compliance; internal investigations; and discipline and termination.
    • Maintain strong relationships and work closely with business partners to support their objectives and provide practical guidance on legal risks related to employment matters.
    • Collaborate with business partners to provide proactive advice on projects to improve business policies and processes.
    • Research a wide range of labor and employment topics and stay current on developments in the law and evolving best practices.
    • Manage the drafting, implementation, and maintenance of template documents and policies for employment matters that arise (e.g., employment policies and procedures, disciplinary and investigation procedures, associate handbooks); assist with internal investigations as needed.
    • Assist with the development and negotiation of employment-related contracts (e.g., talent and employment agreements, separation agreements, recruiter agreements, employee management platforms), and report on general risk management matters related to our workforce.
    • Manage demand letters and administrative agency complaints, including collecting information, conducting interviews, investigating and drafting written responses.
    • Manage outside counsel and budget for employment matters and provide litigation strategy and support for employment-related litigation.
    • Develop training materials and conduct training sessions for internal business partners in various departments.
    • Provide support on immigration matters, in collaboration with the Immigration Paralegal, as needed.

    What will you need to bring?

    • JD degree and current license to practice law in the U.S. (eligible to obtain license in Ohio)
    • 4-6 years of experience handling complex US labor and employment matters
    • Previous in-house experience is a plus
    • Relationship builder and team player who thrives in a highly collaborative environment
    • Demonstrated ability to collaborative with others, including cross-functional teams
    • Self-starter with an eagerness to take on new challenges and work outside of defined scope
    • Ability to autonomously manage a high volume of demands in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment
    • Problem-solver with outstanding analytical skills and a strong desire to find creative legal solutions
    • Excellent presentation and organizational skills with strong attention to detail
    • Willingness to travel occasionally
