The Analytics & Performance Analytics (APEX) function supports AbbVie’s US organization and is comprised of highly respected researchers, analysts, data scientists and strategists who are committed to being best-in-class within the biopharmaceutical industry. We serve as strategic in-house counsel, ensuring that all decisions leverage the key insights that we develop. We are a passionate, diverse, flexible, and inclusive organization with a culture that supports the best ideas, wherever they originate. Purpose
The Director, Field Planning & Analytics, Enterprise (FPAT) leads analytical innovation across Field Planning, Field Tools, and Incentive Compensation (IC) for field-based teams supporting Medical & Health Impact (MHI), AbbVie Patient Services, and Market Access. Drawing on deep marketplace insight, advanced analytics, and data science, this leader advances purposeful innovation that balances strategic design with operational practicality — ensuring field teams are equipped to engage patients, payers, and healthcare providers with greater impact.
This leader brings proven Sales Force Effectiveness (SFE) expertise, including a strong understanding of the distinct dynamics across MHI, Patient Services, and Market Access. They challenge conventional approaches and identify forward-looking solutions that position the business for future success. As an inspirational people leader, they create differentiated development opportunities that strengthen both technical and leadership capabilities across the team. As a strategic business partner, they collaborate effectively with MHI, Patient Services, and Market Access brand and functional leaders to deliver measurable business results.
Key Responsibilities
Develop Future-Ready, Business Unit–Wide Strategic Initiatives
In partnership with MHI, Patient Services, and Market Access TA Heads and VPs:
- Lead field planning strategy and recommendations for future in-field team design across MHI, Patient Services, and Market Access.
- Proactively drive BU-wide Future-Fit field deployment models with a focus on Medical/Commercial In-Field Team Effectiveness (IFTe), strategic positioning, and financial forecasting across the on-market and pipeline portfolios — ensuring patient and payer access needs are addressed and product and service promotion is appropriately supported across MHI, Patient Services, and Market Access channels.
- Define and lead Incentive Compensation (IC) strategy for Patient Services (where appropriate), and Market Access field teams, including the evaluation and refinement of IC models based on portfolio strategy, data robustness, and field motivation — while ensuring full compliance with AbbVie-wide IC governance standards.
Define Direction and Drive Franchise Execution Across FPAT Pillars
In partnership with MHI, Patient Services, and Market Access Field and Home Office Leadership and VPs:
- Lead a high-performing team to translate data and insights into strategic field planning recommendations that maximize effectiveness across MHI medical field teams, Patient Services access specialists, and Market Access account teams — encompassing live and virtual engagement models, structures, contract sales force integration, new in-field team deployment, and non-personal promotion strategies.
- Implement and operationalize IC philosophy, strategy, and communications tailored to the distinct motivational and performance drivers within Patient Services, and Market Access franchises.
- Identify, champion, and pilot Future-Fit technology, including Next Generation CRM, solutions that enable more efficient and effective field decision-making across patient services, payer engagement, and medical affairs functions — holding teams accountable for successful implementation and adoption.
Advance and Deliver the Vision
- Launch, lead, and champion the FPAT vision of strategic partnership across MHI, Patient Services, and Market Access — developing strategic plans that connect field team needs with technology solutions to maximize data efficiencies and minimize time out of the field.
- Serve as a change agent for the FPAT & APEX vision, inspiring and motivating colleagues, leaders, and business partners across all three business units through credible, positive influence.
- Lead ongoing cross-functional collaboration across MHI, Patient Services, Market Access, and shared subject matter expert teams to deliver field effectiveness resources with consistency and quality.
- Drive team prioritization with rigor and inclusivity — managing competing demands across business units, ensuring all perspectives are considered, and committing to clear, decisive outcomes.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree required, and 10 + years of relevant experience across field leadership, marketing, and analytics.
- Prior 3-5 years’ experience in field or functional leadership and/or business management or consulting.
- Experience with AI-enabled and BI field tool capabilities, data analytics, and digital customer engagement is highly desirable
- Previous experience leading broad organizational change initiatives, navigating new ways of working, building positive, accountable, and highly engaged team culture.
- Knowledge and deep understanding of overall business operations in pharma/biotech and healthcare industry.
- Strong understanding of industry legal, analytical and compliance landscape and ability to apply to diverse situations to keenly evaluate risk and develop appropriate risk mitigation strategies.
- Demonstrated leadership ability to develop and drive an organizational strategy in a very complex matrix internal and external environment.
- Ability to lead without authority, driving through execution across multiple functionally diverse stakeholders. Sophisticated skills for coaching, training, and/or mentoring peers or others as assigned; helping such others to better meet or exceed their goals and achieve their full potential in role.
