Job Description

The Brand Excellence, Associate Director — On-Market is an enterprise role responsible for driving on-market strategy and tactical excellence across the US Area. This individual serves as a critical connector for Integrated Brand Teams (IBTs), scaling best practices, elevating strategic planning rigor, and advancing commercial and MHI collaboration.

A cornerstone of this role is expert command of the 1-7-5 brand planning approach — including deep fluency in the 7 anchors, the Patient Journey, and the integration of AI within the 1-7-5 process. This individual will champion omnichannel and AI adoption across on-market IBTs, ensuring teams leverage its capabilities to drive sharper insights, more agile decision-making, and stronger strategic alignment throughout the annual planning cycle.

Additionally, this role requires the ability to continuously assess and modernize planning processes in response to external market dynamics, evolving FDA guidance, and the shifting healthcare landscape.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Planning & Process Excellence

  • Champion the 1-7-5 planning methodology across all on-market IBTs, providing expert guidance on the 7 anchors, Patient Journey, and the integration of AI to enhance strategic quality and planning efficiency.
  • Lead omnichannel and AI adoption and capability-building within the 1-7-5 process, developing resources and best-practice guidance to ensure IBTs maximize its value.
  • Identify and implement annual improvements to planning processes that unlock agility, reduce administrative burden, and accelerate strategic execution.
  • Scan the external environment continuously to develop annual perspectives that educate and inspire IBTs on evolving market events, competitive dynamics, and healthcare landscape shifts.
  • Create AI agents and pull best practices into the 1-7-5 process as brand planning assistants.

IBT Enablement & Organizational Capability

  • Educate all US Area Brand Planning Champions annually, ensuring readiness for the planning cycle, clarity on required deliverables, and enterprise-level strategic guidance across each US Area business unit.
  • In partnership with IBT Project Managers, onboard and develop new IBT members on process expectations, deliverables, and best practices — ensuring continuity of momentum.
  • Ensure seamless transitions within Brand Excellence from the Launch phase, accelerating momentum and positioning brands to meet or exceed on-market performance expectations.
  • Share and scale best practices across on-market IBTs to drive enterprise-level capability advancement.

Operational Effectiveness & Innovation

  • Analyze operational gaps and develop tools, frameworks, or initiatives that improve IBT agility and efficiency.
  • Continuously identify and launch enterprise-wide initiatives that inspire IBTs and advance AbbVie's ability to compliantly and effectively compete in the marketplace.
  • Lead and/or participate in cross-functional working groups designed to maximize commercial and MHI collaboration.

Connectivity & Governance

  • Drive impact within the commercial model through active partnership with International Brand Excellence; represent the US Area on relevant decision-making governance bodies.
  • Serve as the single point of contact between on-market IBTs and the Project Manager Team.
  • Maintain SharePoint and all relevant communication channels to ensure organization-wide access to current processes, resources, and information.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent; advanced degree preferred.
  • Prior AbbVie brand planning experience required.
  • Deep expertise in the 1-7-5 planning process.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive process improvement and organizational capability across complex, matrixed environments.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to synthesize marketplace trends, competitive intelligence, and external data sources into actionable insights.
  • Proven track record of inspiring change and influencing outcomes without direct management authority.
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills across diverse organizational functions and leadership levels.
  • Experience managing multiple business priorities simultaneously, adapting to the unique needs of different markets and product lifecycle stages.
  • Strong project and matrix management skills with a history of delivering results in cross-functional team settings.
