Job Description
The Research and Development Process Engineering team is responsible for developing processes that enable delivery of AbbVie’s candidate molecules in a dosage form which is intended for product commercialization. We have an exciting opportunity for a Material Science and Engineering Leader based in North Chicago, IL.
The R&D Process Engineering group is responsible for enabling drug development by devising fit for purpose manufacturing processes to provide high quality drug substances and drug products for both development studies and clinical supply materials. We are seeking a Material Science and Engineering Leader for solid oral drug product development projects. Individuals should be experienced with drug product process unit operations and material characterization equipment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead Material Science and Engineering Forum - Direct team to focus on project success, innovation and scientific branding
- Solid Oral Project Assessments - Assess and provide recommendations for all early phase solid oral formulations and manufacturing platforms to ensure resulting materials are appropriate for commercial manufacturing
- Provide proactive guidance on all early phase solid oral projects
- Define recommended material sampling locations, amounts and characterization tests
- Compile and maintain target material attributes to ensure commercial manufacturability
- Develop and implement models to de-risk project issues, minimize project development timelines and minimize material consumption. Specifically, population balance models
- Solid Oral Drug Product Project Development, DP engineer lead role and DPT Lead
- Manage material science characterization lab and requests
- Supervise and train individuals executing tests
- Identify and maintain required material characterization equipment
- Advance Scientific Expertise
- Stay current on emerging pharmaceutical industry trends
- Applies imagination and innovation to develop new technologies
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering with 16 years of related work; master’s degree in chemical engineering with 14 years of related work; PhD in chemical engineering with 8 years of related work experience.
- Proven ability to innovate with a history of new or improved product releases
- Interact well with diverse groups within function and maintain strong working relationships with internal and external collaborators
- Excellent oral & written communication, organization, and multitasking skills.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint)
