Job Description

AbbVie France is recruiting an Affiliate Medical Director. In this role, you will play a critical leadership role at the intersection of science, patients, and the healthcare system - shaping medical strategy, leading talented teams, and influencing standards of care while acting as a trusted scientific and business partner. In your role, you are part of the Affiliate leadership team and Europe Medical Affairs Leadership team. You report to Vice President, Medical Affairs Europe and in matrix to Affiliate General Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Provide medical and scientific leadership across the affiliate, ensuring excellence in medical strategy, execution, and governance throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Set and communicate the local medical strategy and scientific position, partnering cross-functionally (Commercial, Market Access, R&D, Regulatory and others) to deliver patient-centric outcomes.
  • Provide clinical oversight and governance, with strong understanding of pharmacovigilance, benefit-risk assessment, and regulatory requirements.
  • Act as a credible scientific leader and ambassador for AbbVie with healthcare professionals, regulators, and the broader scientific community.
  • Lead medical execution using field medical and omnichannel approaches to maximize impact for patients.
  • Support long-range planning and product launches, balancing strategic vision with disciplined execution.
  • Apply strong business acumen to prioritize resources and make effective decisions in a complex matrix environment.
  • Build and lead a high-performing Medical Affairs organization; foster an inclusive, empowering, performance-driven culture by role modeling AbbVie behaviors and principles.
  • Develop talent, strengthen succession pipelines, and inspire teams through authentic, values-based leadership.
  • Lead with integrity, emotional intelligence, and empathy, aligned to AbbVie culture and values.

Qualifications

  • Advanced scientific degree: MD preferred; alternatively, PharmD or PhD in a relevant discipline.
  • 5+ years of medical affairs experience in similar roles and strong clinical background within biopharmaceutical or pharmaceutical environments.
  • Fluency in French and English (written and spoken).
  • Demonstrated understanding of:
    • Drug development and commercialization
    • Local regulatory and pharmacovigilance environments
    • Evidence generation and medical value strategies
  • Proven ability to lead through complexity and influence across a matrix organization.
  • Above affiliate / country medical affairs experience preferred.
  • Experience leading product launches and complex medical organizations.
  • Strong ability to lead teams impactfully, anticipating changes.
