Job Description
The Government Affairs Associate Director, Operational Excellence will assess needs and work with colleagues across AbbVie’s Government Affairs organization to drive cross-functional process standardization for State Government Affairs, Federal Government Affairs, International Government Affairs, and Global Policy U.S. Access Strategies needs. This role additionally requires working with cross-functional partners in Finance, Business Technology Solutions, and Compliance to enhance and support Government Affairs shared automation opportunities with respect to business procurement and data reporting, identify and create training and organizational learning opportunities, and influence overall efficiencies to enable agility in achieving Government Affairs strategies. This role will serve as a catalyst for operational change, integrating data and reporting, leading complex projects, and enabling scalable, sustainable processes that support organizational objectives and future growth.
REPORTS TO: Director, Strategic Planning & Operations, Government Affairs
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Drive Operational Excellence
- Identify operational efficiency gaps and implement targeted improvements for measurable business outcomes, including advancing technology development, automation, and standardization.
- Champion the adoption of digital tools, standardized workflows, and continuous improvement, and coordinate training programs to bridge skill gaps and empower teams to support business objectives.
- Lead ongoing process documentation and governance framework implementation to ensure consistent, high-quality execution
- Facilitate capability development by proactively addressing technical skill gaps, coordinating targeted training, promoting continuous learning, and fostering a growth-oriented, agile environment.
- Reporting, Compliance, and Financial Oversight
- Integrate and streamline reporting across functions to meet Government Affairs leadership needs
- Establish clear metrics and KPIs, and develop consistent dashboards for Government Affairs.
- Provide comprehensive support for financial processes and accounting activities within Government Affairs including LRP, Plan, and LBE processes while ensuring diligent and ongoing financial oversight.
- AbbVie Corporate Political and AbbVie PAC Operations Leadership Support
- Ensure effective integration, training, and compliance with AbbVie political funding operations and serve as Subject Matter Expert (SME) for AbbVie political policies and processes.
- Support audits and manage the preparation of annual tax returns in partnership with Finance and Treasury ensuring full compliance with AbbVie Foundation and relevant entity requirements.
- Facilitate engagement and alignment among key stakeholders (e.g., OEC, Legal, Finance, AbbVie PAC Board). Coordinate annual budget planning, board preparation, and operational processes to ensure transparent, collaborative, and compliant political operations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Operations Management, Finance, or 10+ years of relevant experience
- Proven experience fostering collaboration across cross-functional organization while influencing without authority.
- Experience in leveraging data manipulation platforms such as DataIku, Alteryx, or Tableau preferred
- Demonstrated proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, and Power BI for advanced data analysis, visualization, and presentation development.
- Strong strategic thinking, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to design and implement innovative solutions.
- Excellent business acumen and analytical skills and the ability to anticipate leadership, team, and organizational needs, and proactive in seeking out opportunities and innovations to improve operational efficiencies
- Ability to effectively manage large budgets, perform forecasting and horizon scanning, and analyze data to drive evidence-based strategic and operational enhancements
- Expertise in data management and optimization, leveraging data for reporting, communications and decision-making processes
- Effective leadership with executive presence and proven presentation and communication (oral & written) skills. Proven ability to communicate and deliver results, actions, decisions, and concerns with little direction or supervision in a timely manner.

Individual compensation paid within this range will depend on many factors including geographic location, and we may ultimately paymore or less than the posted range.
