Job Description
The Associate Director of Marketing Excellence will lead the development and execution of marketing excellence initiatives and training curriculum across AbbVie, focusing on building capabilities, driving commercial effectiveness, and increasing marketers’ digital literacy to deliver customer-centric, personalized marketing experiences. This individual will partner with Marketing Managers and Leaders throughout AbbVie’s portfolio, working closely to diagnose needs and develop solutions that advance marketing competencies and support the creation of a world-class marketing organization.
Success in this role requires expertise in marketing – specifically familiarity with AbbVie’s Brand Planning Process, Marketing Competencies and core marketing skills. Omnichannel marketing experience preferred. Role also required a level of expertise in learning & development – demonstrating the ability to design, deliver, and continually improve impactful training programs, and a strong orientation toward cross-functional collaboration. The Associate Director will regularly engage and lead teams comprising participants from U.S. TA&O (including Brand Excellence, Learning and Development, APEX, Lab+), U.S. Commercial Marketing, Market Access Marketing, Medical Affairs, Regulatory, Legal, Office of Ethics & Compliance, HEOR, Agency Relations, Business HR, as well as other internal and external partners. Exceptional communication skills and an aptitude for collaborating effectively at all organizational levels are essential.
Major Responsibilities
- Lead the development, execution, and continual evolution of marketing excellence initiatives that drive commercial effectiveness across AbbVie.
- Work collaboratively across franchises and cross-functional teams to gather stakeholder input, align to business strategies, and deliver impactful programs that elevate the effectiveness of US Commercial Marketers.
- Strategically diagnose organizational and commercial team needs; develop, direct, and influence commercial training and development strategies accordingly.
- Assess marketing skill gaps, perform needs analysis, and define training requirements to create robust learning pathways for diverse marketing and commercial audiences
- Design, deliver, and facilitate engaging training and onboarding programs (in-person and virtual) covering marketing fundamentals, advanced tactics, and AbbVie best practices, leveraging adult learning principles and modern instructional design.
- Create clear learning objectives, conduct post-training evaluations, and utilize feedback and analytics to measure program effectiveness and drive continual improvement.
- Develop, lead, and innovate training experiences and approaches, incorporating industry-leading practices, business trends, and strategic brand needs to deliver a competitive advantage.
- Execute detailed project plans; manage cross-functional teams and/or external partners through large initiatives and ensure successful content co-creation, program execution, facilitation, and iteration
- Build, manage, and model strong partnerships and networks with AbbVie colleagues, experts, and external capability development partners/agencies.
- Demonstrate exceptional stakeholder communication skills to forge trusted relationships at all levels and across disciplines.
- Drive enhancement of marketing competencies among new and existing marketers to accelerate product commercialization and business impact.
- Stay abreast of industry trends in marketing, digital, and learning & development.
- Exhibit a strong commitment to AbbVie's values, especially a patient-first mindset, and foster a high-performance, accountable, and collaborative environment.
- Proficiently train others on digital platforms such as Zoom and Teams; effectively facilitate virtual and in-person learning events.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree required; preferably in marketing, communications, business, or related field. Advanced degree in marketing, business, or adult learning preferred.
- 2-3 years of marketing (or closely related) experience, and 3-5 years of pharmaceutical industry experience.
- Demonstrated expertise in learning and development, with a proven track record in designing, delivering, and measuring effective training for commercial or marketing teams.
- Exceptional project management, communication, and interpersonal skills, including the ability to gain consensus at all organizational levels.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and change management capabilities.
- Ability to influence and lead effectively within a matrixed, global organization.
- Passion for excellence, continuous improvement, and driving results.
- Effective learning facilitator with proficiency in common digital learning platforms.

The compensation range described below is the range of possible base pay compensation that the Company believes in good faith it will pay for this role at the time of this posting based on the job grade for this position. Individual compensation paid within this range will depend on many factors including geographic location, and we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This range may be modified in the future.

This job is eligible to participate in our short-term incentive programs.
