Job Description

Business Systems Leads (BSLs) proactively works with the Information Research Business Systems Analysts and CDO Business teams to analyze business processes; elicits, defines, analyzes and documents business & system integration requirements for new or existing systems; identifies alternative solutions, assesses feasibility and makes recommendations typically seeking to leverage new or existing components.  They translate business requirements into functional requirements; perform data modeling; leads, coordinates testing, verification, and validation of requirements. The BSL provides advice, assistance and technical leadership in any area associated with planning, procurement, provision, delivery, management, maintenance and effective business use of systems within Clinical Development Operations.   

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with business stakeholders across multiple units to understand processes, strategies, and requirements, identifying opportunities where technology can enable improvements. 
  • Build and maintain strong, trust-based relationships at all organizational levels and with external partners, ensuring clear communication and alignment between business and technology teams. 
  • Provide informed recommendations to stakeholders, offering technical guidance to achieve measurable process improvements. 
  • Ensure compliance with corporate and divisional policies, while assessing emerging business needs and evaluating technology solutions using best-practice methodologies. 
  • Partner with stakeholders to proactively identify and evaluate risks associated with business and technology decisions. 
  • Manage stakeholder expectations and promote understanding of AbbVie Technology’s capabilities and services. 
  • Advocate for business needs to drive high-quality outcomes and results. 
  • Work closely with Centers of Excellence and strategic managed services providers to ensure the effective development and delivery of solutions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree with 7 years of relevant experience, master’s degree with 6 years, or PhD with 2 years in business information systems or a closely related discipline. 
  • Proven leadership and analytical skills, including coordinating across functional and technical teams. 
  • Proven experience in the documentation, implementation, configuration, and operations of custom and purchased technology solutions. 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and well-developed verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Must be able to effectively lead and facilitate meetings with business stakeholders and technical team members. 
  • Must be “deliverable focused” and detail oriented. 
  • Must exhibit strong teamwork skills. 
  • Must have a strong customer focus. 
  • Knowledge of the pharmaceutical industry and advanced expertise in Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) methodologies strongly preferred.
  • Experience with both Waterfall and Agile (SCRUM) methodologies.
