Job Description

This position will follow a hybrid schedule of 3 days/week onsite from our North Chicago headquarters.

Purpose

The Associate Director, EEDI Change Adoption and Communications will design, lead and support multiple EEDI (Equity, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion) strategic priorities, with focus on advancing adoption through thoughtful and strategic communications. This role is accountable for shaping and implementing communications strategies that drive awareness, foster understanding, and inspire engagement around EEDI. Responsibilities include strategies and initiatives that reach and resonate with both current and prospective employees, utilizing compelling communication and storytelling to emphasize individual and collective experiences across teams. 


This position will collaborate with HR and Enterprise Communications and business leaders to deliver on EEDI imperatives across the organization. In addition, this role will contribute to the development and implementation of communications deliverables that support shared business outcomes across the broader EEDI team and HR function, aligned with broader enterprise initiatives. The successful candidate will embrace a collaborative and inclusive approach, ensuring communications reflect and celebrate the diverse backgrounds, perspectives and contributions of all employees.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement effective, inclusive communications strategies that advance EEDI objectives and outcomes, ensuring alignment with business needs and supporting planning and logistical coordination as required.
  • Oversee daily communications activities, operational tasks and project management, executing EEDI strategic priorities throughout the organization.
  • Create and manage ELT level communications - supporting VP, People Experience in both written and verbal communication for high profile requests, such as speaking at leadership programs and Executive meetings.
  • Lead Change Adoption workstream within AbbVie’s Accessibility Taskforce, driving initiatives that foster accessibility and inclusion across teams and functions.
  • Create and deliver inspiring content and communications that connect with employees, leaders, and stakeholders through storytelling that reflects diverse perspectives and experiences.
  • Manage the development, review, approval, and execution of EEDI-related content for external social media platforms, maintaining consistency and quality across all channels.
  • Maintain and enhance internal and external EEDI web content, developing strategies for effective oversight, coordination, and continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with Enterprise Communications, Human Resources, and other functional teams to ensure integrated, cohesive employee communications that maximize engagement, readership, and impact; serve as a liaison for alignment in branding and social media.
  • Identify, evaluate, and implement new communication channels and solutions that facilitate efficient content sharing and strengthen connections with current and prospective employees, promoting an inclusive workplace culture.
  • Support the measurement of communication effectiveness through feedback, analytics, and reporting, adjusting approaches to continuously improve outcomes in alignment with EEDI priorities.

     

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Integrated Marketing, Communications, Journalism or equivalent.
  • Eight plus years of relevant experience and proven track record of success in managing employee communications initiatives that protect corporate reputation, citizenship, crisis planning and company values.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills along with knowledge of emerging communications trends and technologies.
  • Expertise in graphic design, creating inspirational messaging with high quality and visually appealing content. 
  • Strong project management and planning skills.
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to anticipate company and team needs. Ability to understand and leverage data and research to develop and deliver strong and inspiring messaging. 
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment under deadlines with competing priorities.
  • Excellent organizational skills and demonstrated ability to complete detailed work accurately.
  • Experience working in diversity and inclusion programs within large organizations/institutions with a passion for efforts in this field.
