Job Description

PURPOSE STATEMENT

This position will provide technical and analytical support for customs and trade compliance matters at the Costa Rica manufacturing location, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and trade laws.

Key responsibilities include supporting the site’s daily import/export transactions, management of customs broker activities, communicate, as necessary, with in country Customs Authorities, and other relevant Government Agencies, develop and deploy trade compliance procedures/policies, serve as the local subject matter expert for the Global Trade Compliance function,  provide general/tactical trade guidance to local AbbVie business personnel, and assist on audits related to AbbVie’s trade activity.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure that all import/export transactions are in compliance with in-country Customs Law.
  • Communicate directly with site customs brokers and forwarders to resolve day-to-day issues that result in border delays.
  • Provide guidance to local AbbVie business on matters concerning import & export transactional requirements.
  • Manage the integrity of trade data for Costa Rica such as tariff classification, customs valuation and country of origin determination and support monitoring the system in which they are maintained.
  • Monitor trade compliance regulatory and legislative changes and alert appropriate parties internally to the impact on the business.
  • Manage the import permit processing through Customs Systems, such as TICA and VUCE.
  • Conduct periodic post entry audit of sampled transactions for local businesses to verify the accuracy of trade compliance elements lodged with the local customs authorities and to identify compliance risks and cost-savings opportunities
  • Develop solutions impacting trade and provide knowledge sharing to improve operational performance and ensure compliance with importing/exporting regulations.
  • Capture and analyze metrics associated with trade operations for reporting up to the site and the Global Trade Compliance leadership.
  • Assist in the execution of the self-audit program to ensure continued compliance with customs law and internal policies.
  • Assist the site with applications for customs warehouses or similar special-use zones or permits, along with monitoring compliance with the terms and conditions of the zone/warehouse/permit authorization
  • All other functions inherent to the position and those assigned by the immediate supervisor.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

  • University or Technician degree in a related field (e.g. international trade, supply chain, logistics).
  • Proficient in English B2 (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages).

SKILLS

EXPERIENCE

  • At least 5 years of experience working in trade compliance, broker’s agency or multinational company, or consulting firm.
