Job Description
Purpose Statement:
- Bring impactful AbbVie products to customers as quickly and efficiently as possible via leading China Asset Strategy Leadership Team and working closely with regional and global teams to deliver the most competitive asset strategies across therapeutic areas.
- Whenever needed, on behalf of China Development Head, represent the medical/scientific expertise and viewpoint in AbbVie's Development activities towards internal and external stakeholders in China and global.
- Lead AbbVie-wide initiatives to build leadership capability and enhance team performance, improve organizational fit and effectiveness, directing activities with appropriate internal and external stakeholders.
Responsibilities
1. Lead China Asset Strategy Leadership Team
- Lead all the China Asset Strategy Leaders, provide necessary and timely support and guidance to ensure the success of every China ASL in defining and executing China development strategy for assigned assets which contribute to sustainable, successful growth of AbbVie business.
- Work closely with cross functional team leaders in China, region and global, prioritize and optimize China asset development strategy with adequate consideration of local market potential and global success, align China strategy via key stakeholder management. Build strong connections with the global Asset Strategy Leadership group.
- Ensures optimal performance of every China Asset Strategy Team (C-AST) and deliverable teams by effective leading, enabling and influencing. Empower China functional leaders to be accountable and responsible for functional deliverables and deliver in an agile and operationally efficient way for committed timelines and budgets in China. Proactively develops proposals to manage, mitigate and resolve risks and look for acceleration and improvement opportunities that are common cross TA for asset strategy and delivery in China.
2. Lead China Oncology Early Development (OED) Strategy
- Work closely with global OED leaders and China cross functional team to work out OED strategy in China, i.e. internal working model & external partnerships
- Build strong connection with global OED functions, lead early assets assessment, prioritize and optimize assets development strategy in China
- Take China ASL role for a few OED assets depending on business needs and fulfill China ASL responsibilities. Make sure a smooth transition of early assets to late stage.
3. Be a major successor, back up and delegate of China Development Head
- Whenever needed, on behalf of China Development Head, represent the medical/scientific expertise and viewpoint in AbbVie's Development activities towards internal and external stakeholders in China and global.
- Be a key contributor to China portfolio strategy
- Support BD due diligence activities
- Lead AbbVie-wide initiatives to build leadership capability and enhance team performance, improve organizational fit and effectiveness, directing activities with appropriate internal and external stakeholders.
- Other tasks assigned by China Development Head
Qualifications
- Medical Degree required in clinical medicine; Advanced degree desired (e.g. PhD, MBA).
- Extensive experience in drug development (minimum of 15 years) plus leadership role (minimum of 8 years) in clinical development in multinational pharmaceuticals. Clinical practice in hospital and pharmaceutical experience in Oncology is desired.
- Strong strategic thinking, collaboration, facilitative leadership, executive function, and problem-solving skills. Ability to assimilate new knowledge rapidly and apply that to asset strategy.
- Track record of strong organizational skills and effective stakeholder management
- Experience leading a team in a cross-functional environment. Ability to objectively exercise judgment and create pragmatic solutions to address complex cross-functional problems, and to be accountable for obtaining stakeholder advice to make informed decisions, in order to move programs forward in the face of uncertainty or incomplete data.
- Ability to lead and motivate team members from cross functional areas; must be able to lead through influence and bring out the best in others. Ability to delegate appropriate accountability and decision making to supporting teams and functions.
- Ability and willingness to respectfully challenge team members and functions, and manage conflict, in order to assess fully all opportunities, options, risks, and mitigations.
- Strong communication and strategic influencing skills in English are essential
