Job Description

The Group Copy Supervisor is responsible for leading copy development on multiple brands and working closely with Editorial, Art, and Account partners, along with Creative Management to ensure that clients are satisfied with the quality of our creative work, the value of our services, and our responsiveness to their needs.

This is a hybrid role with the ability to commute to our Irvine, CA office at least 3 days per week.

Creative/Hands-on Work (70%)

  • Works with Art partner to produce and lead Brave, Authentic, Inspiring ideas and multi-channel tactics
  • The lead writer on print, video, and digital projects with minimal supervision
  • All copy must be clear, powerful, and free of errors, as well as correctly referenced and annotated
  • Manages and works independently, often under tight deadlines, while juggling multiple projects
  • Provides constructive feedback to improve others’ work
  • Actively participates in client meetings
  • Participates in MLR reviews as needed
  • Attends market research as appropriate
  • Contributes to strategy discussions; leads development of brand messages and positioning
  • Understands that advertising is a service industry that sometimes requires extra time and effort to meet client commitments


Management (15%)

  • Assigns writers best suited for each project based on ability and workload
  • Manages their own workload and those of direct reports to maximize productivity and maintain billable hours
  • Works closely with Art, Editorial, Traffic and Project Management to ensure jobs stay on track with deadlines and budgets
  • Proactively seeks feedback from supervisor and Creative leaders
  • Provides written and face-to-face feedback for annual performance reviews, as well as ongoing feedback throughout the year
  • Identifies and interviews prospective creative candidates


Leadership (15%)

  • Maintains strong client relationships
  • Works with Account to grow business with existing clients
  • Leads the copywriters in development of concepts and execution of all projects
  • Assures that all supervised copywriters are trained and mentored to maintain the expectations of the agency and the client, and to meet their own career goals
  • Consistently demonstrates to clients an understanding of their brands and marketing challenges and is responsive to their strategic and creative needs
  • Presents copy with enthusiasm, internally and externally, to gain buy-in and negotiate changes
  • Represents the agency at client meetings; co-presents creative work with Art partner

Qualifications

  • 7+ years’ pharmaceutical advertising agency experience
  • BA degree or equivalent business experience within the pharmaceutical or related industry required
  • A proven track record of creative ability and judgment; successful client contact experience; the ability to work collaboratively with Art and Account; excellent presentation skills; previous experience managing writers; strong marketing and strategic abilities; a deep understanding of science and healthcare; strong understanding of MLR review processes and requirements; exceptional copywriting skills in all media
